A collision in the Sai Mai district of Bangkok has claimed the lives of a 38-year-old mother and her 9-year-old daughter after a cement mixer truck sideswiped their motorcycle, killing both at the scene.

The incident occurred at 16:35 on 11 June, on Soi Sai Mai 51, off Sai Mai Road, when the truck driver veered into the left lane and struck the motorcycle, which was being driven in a reported normal manner. Eyewitnesses reported that the force of the collision caused both victims to be thrown from the vehicle and die instantly.

The driver of the cement mixer attempted to flee the scene, locking himself in the cab of the truck and continuing to drive. However, a local security guard and concerned citizens gave chase and intercepted the vehicle on Soi Sai Mai 63. After a tense standoff, members of the public were able to pressure the driver into exiting the vehicle, where he was held before being handed over to police officers.

The husband of the deceased woman, Mr. Wuttichai Chansena, 41, arrived at the site of the crash. Mr. Wuttichai recounted the moment he discovered the news. He had returned home early from work for reasons he couldn’t explain. As he passed the scene on a bus, he noticed a crash had taken place, but emergency responders had already covered the bodies with a tarp. It wasn’t until he reached home and realised his wife and daughter had not returned that he began to panic.

Repeated calls to his wife’s phone went unanswered. He borrowed a friend’s motorcycle and returned to the scene, where he saw a photo taken at the time of the crash. Recognising their motorcycle in the image, he realised with horror that his wife and daughter were the victims.

A local security guard, Ms. Wanwisa Anurakdilok, who witnessed the crash, confirmed that the cement mixer had drifted into the motorcycle’s lane without warning. She noted that another security guard had immediately followed the truck after it fled the scene.

A lawyer representing the cement truck driver contacted the family of the victims and offered to cover transportation and funeral costs totalling 50,000 baht. The family has yet to discuss full compensation, but the driver’s representatives have reportedly promised to provide further support and reparations.
