Crime Police Raid in 3 Provinces Uncovers Chinese Nominee Firm in Heavy Machinery Rental Scheme
Picture courtesy of Khaosod In a coordinated operation across three provinces, police have raided the premises of a suspected Chinese nominee firm involved in the illicit rental of heavy machinery, uncovering a complex network of financial deception, nominee shareholders and suspected tax evasion. Under the command of Pol Maj Gen Tasanapoom Jaruprachya, officers from the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD) executed court-approved search warrants on three sites: the company’s headquarters in Bangkok, a branch in Nava Nakorn, Ayutthaya Province and another in Rayong Province. Authorities seized a large cache of documents including: • A company registration certificate • Stock inventory records • Import and domestic lease documents • Delivery and return slips for rental equipment • Vehicle documentation • Financial statements and auditor’s reports • Six bank account books • Nine company seals Three individuals were taken into custody: Mr. Wei, a 38-year-old Chinese national, along with Ms. Punnada, 42 and Ms. Nattarada, 39, both Thai nationals. All face charges under the Foreign Business Act of 1999, which restricts foreign ownership and control of certain business sectors without proper authorisation. According to police, the company operated by fronting Thai employees as directors and shareholders, while Chinese investors secretly controlled the business. The enterprise allegedly specialised in importing and leasing heavy machinery such as cranes and forklifts, which were advertised through social media platforms like Facebook. Investigations revealed that the company functioned as a holding entity, with no real operational activities, yet was tied to a web of related firms sharing the same shareholder structure, board members and financial flows. The two Thai shareholders, both employed by the company, were found to have no active role in management and likely did not invest their own funds. Authorities have traced over 50 million baht in investment capital transferred from Chinese financiers and discovered over 500 million baht in account transactions. Documentation linked the firm to more than 250 units of heavy machinery sourced both domestically and internationally. Despite denying all allegations, the suspects have been handed over to investigators from the ECD’s 4th Subdivision for legal proceedings. Interviews with employees and Thai shareholders further confirmed that Chinese nationals were effectively managing the operation. Moreover, QR codes linked to employee accounts were reportedly used to receive rental payments, raising serious concerns about personal income tax evasion. Fire Bedridden Elderly Woman Killed in Chonburi House Fire

An early morning blaze engulfed a two-storey home in Chonburi, claiming the life of a 78-year-old bedridden woman and leaving her son unconscious after suffering smoke inhalation and burns. The fire broke out around 04:00 on 25 June, in Soi Baan Piyawat 2/2, Moo 3, Samet Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chonburi Province. Firefighters from the Samet Municipal Fire Department, along with officers from Samet Police Station and emergency responders from the Thammasat Rassamee Maneerat Foundation, were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving reports of the blaze. Upon arrival, authorities found the house’s ground floor fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters battled the inferno and managed to bring it under control within 30 minutes, preventing the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties. Rescue workers discovered a man unconscious at the front of the house, suffering from burns to his body and hands, along with signs of severe smoke inhalation. He was treated at the scene before being rushed to Chonburi Hospital for further medical care. Tragically, the charred remains of Mrs. Arunee, 78, were discovered on a bed inside the home. She had been bedridden for three years and was unable to escape the flames. A neighbour described the moment the fire began. “I was asleep when I heard the son shouting for help,” he recalled. “I woke up, saw red flames and rushed to switch on the lights. By the time I got outside, the whole ground floor was burning. The son was running around screaming for help but couldn’t get to his mother due to the intensity of the fire.” Mr. Thammarat Aajwarin, a rescue worker with the Thammasat Rassamee Maneerat Foundation, confirmed that the injured man had been trying desperately to save his mother but was overwhelmed by the smoke and flames. Investigators are now awaiting a full forensic examination report, of the scene to determine the cause of the fire. Sorry that the link didn't work for you. I just copied and posted the address in my browser and it worked ok so I'm not sure what is the problem. According to government figures, +/-4,000 people were sleeping rough on the streets of the UK in Autumn 2023, although Shelter puts the figure at 12,000. I found both figures surprisingly low, but then my observation is based on London where most are congregated. Given the relative low figures, imo it should be possible to offer shelter to these individuals if they want it. As I stated in one of my earlier posts, I don't think that there is an easy answer to the illegal migrant problem and I don't think Reform have the answers to the country's problems either. Guess that we'll just have to agree to disagree about that. -

Pictures courtesy of Amarin A major security alert was triggered at Phuket International Airport on the afternoon of 25 June, after authorities discovered a motorcycle suspected of concealing an explosive device in the domestic terminal car park. The alarm was raised around 16:10, when police received intelligence suggesting that one of three motorcycles potentially containing explosives had been abandoned at the airport. The vehicle was found approximately 200 metres from the passenger terminal building. A rapid, coordinated response was launched involving senior officials including Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum, Commander of Phuket Provincial Police, and Mr Montchai Tahanod, Director of Phuket Airport. Officers from Sakhu Police Station, bomb disposal experts (EOD), K-9 units, airport security staff and emergency services moved swiftly to cordon off the area and implement the airport’s bomb threat contingency plan. Mr Montchai, the Airport Director, confirmed that emergency protocols were enacted immediately. Fire engines, ambulances, and specialist bomb disposal equipment were deployed. Despite the disruption, airport operations were not affected and flights continued as scheduled. “The object was located in the motorcycle parking zone, about 200 metres from the domestic terminal,” Mr Montchai said. “Initial efforts were made to examine the device, but due to uncertainty we opted for a controlled detonation for safety.” EOD units, supported by K-9 teams, had assessed the object and determined it was potentially an explosive. A controlled explosion was subsequently carried out. The area had been secured, and passengers were kept at a safe distance throughout the operation. Examination after the controlled blast, confirmed that there was no explosive material, but circuitry and packaging, made to look like a homemade bomb. This was just one of several security incidents across Phuket on the same day. At around 14:00, police were called to a restaurant in Kathu district after a suspicious bag was discovered. Fortunately, it was found to contain no harmful materials and was returned to its owner, a resident of Nakhon Si Thammarat, who had forgotten it. Additional suspicious objects were reported in Laem Phromthep and Patong, though none were found to be explosives or pose a danger. Authorities have since increased patrols in public areas across the island. Later in the evening, police confirmed that two suspects had been arrested in connection with the airport incident. One admitted to planning to plant the suspect device at the airport, after travelling from Pattani province with a group of accomplices. The second suspect was identified as the individual who parked the motorcycle at the airport. According to investigators, the men were part of a coordinated plot to target high-profile sites in a deliberate attempt to cause public disruption. Police are now working to track down other individuals believed to be involved. A spokesperson for the Phuket Provincial Police urged the public to remain calm but alert: “We call on everyone to report any suspicious activity or items immediately. Public cooperation is essential to ensuring continued safety.” Despite the tense atmosphere, airport services have remained operational, with authorities emphasising that safety procedures are firmly in place.
