A road crash in front of Phrae Hospital has claimed the life of a respected former district chief, prompting an outpouring of grief from his family and the local community.

At approximately 08:30 on the morning of 23 June, police were alerted to a serious collision involving a pedestrian and a private vehicle on the zebra crossing outside Phrae Hospital in Nai Wiang Subdistrict, Mueang Phrae District.

Upon arrival, officers from Mueang Phrae Police Station, along with traffic police and emergency rescue teams, found a bronze Honda City with Chiang Mai registration number. The vehicle, which had impact damage on both the bonnet and windscreen, was being driven by Mr Mekhin Samphao, 46, who remained at the scene. A breathalyser test showed no trace of alcohol.

The victim, later identified as 76-year-old Mr Adul Hanphongkittikul, a retired district chief and resident of Phrae Province, had sustained critical injuries while crossing the street, using a marked zebra crossing. He was rushed to Phrae Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.

Mr Adul was widely respected for his integrity and dedication throughout his public service career. He had served in multiple districts, with his final posting as district chief of Rong Kwang. Even after his retirement, he remained active in civic life, serving as a member of the Phrae Provincial Administrative Organisation Council and as an advisor to various local committees.

Local authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident, reviewing CCTV in the area and took the driver in for questioning.

So why is this news?? It happens almost every day that a pedestrian is run over on a zebra crossing....But you need a working policeforce and justice system to solve these matters.. but both are not available

He was Thai, didn't he know that nobody stops for anyone in a Zebra crossing? In fact, they usually speed through the Zebra crossings, everybody knows pedestrians are last on the pecking order, they can wait.
