Crime Double Murder at Village Festival: Father & Son Arrested After Grudge-Fuelled Attack

A village celebration in Khon Kaen province descended into chaos on the night of 27 June, after a father and son allegedly gunned down two brothers in a brazen, premeditated attack, leaving a third man injured by stray gunfire. The incident occurred in Ban Sub Bon, Village 7, Sub Sombun Subdistrict, Khok Pho Chai District, during a traditional merit-making festival. Witnesses say a local parade was underway with music and dancing when the violence erupted. Two brothers, Mr. Montri Namwiset 30 and Mr. Teerawat Namwiset 27, were reportedly dancing near a festival truck when they were shot at close range. Montri was shot in the head and slashed with a blade, while Teerawat was shot in the chest. Both died later in hospital. A third victim, Mr. Asanee Khwankla, 29, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. He is recovering in hospital and has since identified the alleged attackers. Police named the suspects as Mr. Somkuan Thiamthip 35 and his father Mr. Muan Thiamthip 64, who were apprehended at a hut behind their home on the following morning. Officers recovered a handmade firearm believed to have been used in the attack, as well as camouflage clothing allegedly worn by Mr. Muan at the time. Pol. Col. Pitakhet Singpitak, chief of Khok Pho Chai Police Station, stated that a longstanding personal grudge appears to be the motive. Initial questioning revealed the parties had previous altercations and investigators believe the suspects seized the opportunity to ambush the brothers during the festivities. Eyewitnesses reported that Mr. Somkuan fired multiple shots before Mr. Muan allegedly used a blade to strike the fallen men. The two then fled the scene. Both suspects initially denied involvement, but mounting evidence and witness testimony led to their arrest and continued questioning. Accident Elderly Motorcyclist Killed Instantly in U-Turn Collision with Speeding Pickup

An 80-year-old man was killed instantly after his motorcycle was rear-ended by a speeding pickup truck while he was attempting a U-turn near a school on a main highway in Amnat Charoen province. The fatal crash occurred around midday, along the four-lane Yasothon–Amnat Charoen highway inbound towards the city centre, just before reaching Nayom Witthayakhan School in Nayom Subdistrict, Mueang District. Police and emergency services were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of a fatal crash. On arrival, officers found extensive crash debris strewn across the road, with a damaged Toyota Vigo pickup truck bearing Bangkok plates and a black Honda Wave motorcycle, lying near the median strip at a designated U-turn point. The rider, later identified as Mr. Thonglang Rakprathet 80, was found dead at the scene. He had sustained catastrophic head injuries, with visible skull fractures and heavy bleeding. Initial investigations revealed that Mr. Thonglang had been attempting a U-turn when the pickup struck the rear of his motorcycle with significant force. The impact threw the motorbike onto the central divider, crushing the front end and leaving the elderly man fatally injured. The pickup truck driver told police he had been driving towards the city in the right-hand lane at a moderate speed when the motorbike abruptly changed lanes. He said he sounded the horn but was unable to stop in time due to the short distance between the vehicles. Authorities are now reviewing footage from the pickup truck’s dashcam to determine the exact sequence of events and assess possible legal action. Family members of the deceased arrived at the scene shortly after being informed. Visibly distraught, they mourned the sudden loss of a beloved family member. On Friday, the World Health Organisation warned that its first delivery of medical supplies to Gaza since March – when Israel imposed a full blockade on the strip – was merely a “drop in the ocean” compared to what is needed. “Open the routes and make sure that we can get our supplies in,” said WHO’s Dr Rik Peeperkorn from Jerusalem, adding that Israel had denied entry to nearly 45 per cent of the organisation’s aid teams. At least 34 people were killed across Gaza by Israeli strikes, health staff say, as Palestinians face a growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and ceasefire prospects inch closer. The strikes began late Friday and continued into Saturday morning, among others killing 12 people at the Palestine Stadium in Gaza City, which was sheltering displaced people, and eight more living in apartments, according to staff at Shifa hospital where the bodies were brought. At least 81 Palestinians have been killed and more than 400 injured in Israeli strikes across Gaza in the 24 hours until midday on Saturday, the Hamas-run health ministry said. In one incident, at least 11 people, including children, were killed after a strike near a stadium in Gaza City, Al-Shifa hospital staff and witnesses told news agencies.
