A horrific road crash claimed the life of a 33-year-old motorcyclist in Chiang Mai province earlier today after his high-powered motorcycle lost control on a bend, collided with a roadside steel barrier and burst into flames. The impact was so severe that the rider was decapitated.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:45 on 28 June, along the Chiang Rai–Doi Saket road near Ban Pa Daeng in Doi Saket district. Police investigators from Doi Saket Police Station, accompanied by rescue volunteers from the Sawang Samret Chiang Mai Foundation and a duty physician from Doi Saket Hospital, responded swiftly to the scene.

On arrival, emergency responders were battling flames engulfing the wreckage of a big bike, which had been reduced to a mangled heap of charred metal. The fire was eventually extinguished using chemical suppression agents.

The victim was identified as Mr. Kritsada, 33, a resident of San Klang subdistrict, San Pa Tong district, Chiang Mai. His body was found metres away from the impact point, with his head violently severed in the crash, a scene described by officials as deeply distressing.

Early reports suggest the rider was travelling at high speed when he failed to navigate a bend in the road, resulting in the bike slamming directly into the metal guardrail. The force of the collision likely triggered the fuel tank to ignite, causing the fire.

Police have launched a formal investigation into the exact cause of the crash, including whether excessive speed, road conditions or potential mechanical failure were contributing factors.

Mr. Kritsada’s remains have been transferred to Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Day time, no rain, curvy mountain road, it would have been a nice ride but Mr Inexperienced/Incompetent lost his head.

Oh well, good to hear he didn't hurt anyone else.

On Thai Roads, I drive like it's raining and they are wet. Reason? The roads are dirty. Sand patches everywhere, Trucks bringing dirt on the roads from unpaved roads and so on. You never know how the condition of the next corner may be. All that beside of the many idiots you have to be aware off.

When this happens to you I’ll be sure to make the same remark about you.

Yet another graphic warning to drive carefully and defensively .

It has always seemed to me that taking to the roads in Thailand was like participating in a Demolition Derby.

Another take:  Three stories today that would have ended very differently had they been riding in a car instead of on a scooter.
