Medical Extension

I am having an unexpected medical procedure soon and want info on getting an extension.

I have a 60 day vee 13 June - 11 August.

How, long is the recovery period. 

You  could obtain a 30 day extension unrelated to  medical issues. 

That 30 days would be added to your current permission of stay.

Unsure of recovery period DrJ, but 30 days won't cover me to my flight home on 18 September. Do 60 day medical extensions exist?

My original plan was to hang out in Laos for a couple of weeks before returning to Thailand.

Medical extensions exist, but they require extensive paperwork from the hospital. So it would be best if you check with the hospital that you plan to use if they have experience dealing with immigration and if they think you qualify for a medical extension based upon the planned medical procedure. Don't take this lightly, to qualify you must actually be unfit to travel.

Thanks Cal, I will have further talks with them this week, I guess it all depends on their view of the recovery period.  I will report back if I learn something that may assist others.

Although it varies from province to province, medical extensions are generally very difficult to obtain.  It's not that you don't want to fly, or feel you can't fly, it's that you must be physically unable to fly.  If you can go to immigration to apply for an extension, you are well enough to be wheeled to your plane and fly out.  Basically you have to be admitted into the hospital unable to leave your bed if you want a medical extension.
