Thai Baht's Rise in Jeopardy Amid Political Uncertainty

Featured Replies

I've talked to Trump.  He said he might send the Dollar to 1:1 against the Baht because he loves reading these threads.

Trump lives in your mind for all of eternity.

Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump

Good, I hope this manipulated nonsense comes unstuck, and the US and others are right to consider Thailand as a currency manipulator... just ridiculous how strong it is.

  • We all know it's far too high it will effect exports and tourism big time if something isn't done about it and with the US imposing high tarrifs it's going to get worse

Thailand still playing the old game, but now it's back firing.

What rising bath?

Barely unchanged against the USD over 5 years. Weaker against the £.

Try reading beyond the headline, like even the first 1/2 sentence:

  "The Thai baht's recent four-month rally ......"

Well I cannot see it either.

4 months to now is March to July.

Between  Feb to April this year, I was  getting an average of 42.69 to the UKP at TT Exchange

Today, July 8th, TT Exchange is offering 43.98.  https://ttexchange.com/exchange-rate  129 Baht difference in my favour on a £!00 exchange

How is that a 4-month rally that is decimating tourism?

I hope Trump will apply tariffs of 50% or more on Thailand, then we will see if they can sustain the strong growth of the Baht

"faces challenges"?? as the baht appreciating is a good thing?? It means less exports and less tourists - both of which are vital to the economy. The baht is at least 10-20% overvalued for absolutely no reason other than manipulation.

Bring back tourism posting on here if the thai baht goes down.  Tourism is fine here.  A lot eye grabbing headlines from Thailand saying tourism is down but if you actually read the story. It's far from down   they're doing a lot better than most countries tourism wise.

I don't think the strong Baht will have effect on tourism. Tourists take it into account and it certainly won't limit them. I think instead it will have negative effects on expatriates and exporters.

Disagree with your first, agree with 2nd and 3rd.

I cut my holiday there short, I'm sure others do too. Modest hotel $75US a night, forget it, back to the Philippines where I was getting 55PHP to the dollar, instead of 32ThB.

Was there in 1997/98. 55thb to the dollar. Those were the days, Carlsberg pitchers 55thb.......another round, WHY NOT!

shouldnt be rising in the first place

I'm on your side, but as for tourist flows we have to look at it from a global and not individual perspective. As you can see from the graph, tourist flows have returned to pre-Covid levels. We can consider the decline in the last part to be physiological due to the low season. This is due to the fact that tourism has changed. Western tourism has been in crisis for years by now. Today, it is mainly made up of Chinese and Indians, and they don't care whether the Baht is overvalued or not, believe to me

Look at the exchange rates over the past 10 years against the AUD!!

That's AUD weakening against all currencies not bht strengthening.
