Breitbart is about as far right as any news outlet in America can get.

America has to find $1.22 trillion in interest to service its $36 trillion debt. That's at the current interest rate average of 3.375%, and bond yields have been rising ever since Trump was elected.

I'd say your free ride on the backs of other countries is over.

China just announced it is negotiating free trade with Asean nations, leaving US in their rearview mirror.

Great news, maybe under that FTA Thailand could reduce their massive trade deficit with China.

About time to cite safety concerns after Air India disaster and cancel that Dreamliner orders for Thai Airways.

Keep up with the news, in that Air India incident, someone actually cut off the fuel from both engines, they didn't say if it was the pilot or co-pilot.,.so your comment is irrelevant.

Set as "Reciprocal Tariffs," these measures aim to address the US trade deficit

Which it is clearly not but more of Trump's imagination and feeling of self importance.

Case in point Trump placed a 50% tariff on Brazil that has a trade "deficit" with the US instead of the US having a trade deficit with Brazil. Same with Singapore for which Trump placed a 25% tariff.

When Trump was asked by reporters recent;y what was his logic for his latest round of international tariff increases, he replied basically because the tariffs were what he FELT they should be.

I certainly never implied that BRICS was formed as a result of Trump, however they are getting stronger as a result of Trump and America is getting less relevant.

Utter self-delusional nonsense. BRICS has been nothing but aggressive since it's formation including substantial expansion when Biden was President.

Attack Trump on facts, not delusional lies.

The vast majority of those imports from China are in fact repacked goods which are then exported to USA and other countries to bypass the tariffs on China. This has been going on for decades and it is about time the West shut China down. Thailand is screwed and they know it, but cannot work a deal to make the best out of it. The Thai Chamber of Commerce yesterday was demanding the Thai Govt negotiate a zero tariff  with USA because the economy is struggling = the delusion is astounding.

Who cares. Trump also cites stupidity as National Security issue to slap tariffs on others.

Not easy. If Thailand drops tariffs on US rice imports it could ravage the Thai rice farming industry.

On the other hand, if the Thai government does nothing, thai rice will cost 36% more in America, and add the high Baht—forget about that export.

Be that as it may, Airbus has not had a fatal air crash since 2009. Boeing has had three since 2018.

Seems that some people on this forum are not aware that the US consumers are the ones picking up the final bill for these ludicrous tariffs by Trump's administration.

What on earth is Trump thinking?

Not to mention the fact that countries worldwide will shift their focus towards trading more with Europe and China instead.

In both cases, USA will stand behind as the loser in this war on tariffs.

I agree he's an idiot either that or he's building up for an even bigger tax break for himself and his billionaire buddys paid for by the ordinary  Americans its the same as the 30% tariffs he is now imposing on the EU and Mexico. Actions have consequences.

The whole world are looking for other markets bypassing America completely.

I can see the EU being more grown up and pragmatic about it retaliating by imposing tariffs where it would hurt America the most while at the same time minimising the effects on the EU citizens.

Another TACO possibly he's a buffoon a joke the worlds laughing at him but he can't see it.

30 years ago, trade and foreign exchange in American dollars accounted for more than 70% of transactions worldwide. Now, it's about 54%.

What's the betting another 42 months of Trump will see it go below 50%?

Although another 3.5 years of Trump will be hell, I wish the countries of the world would get some backbone and hold their ground. The prices in the US would skyrocket. The US consumer would revolt, and Trump would have failed. As the saying goes, "Together we stand, divided we fall."

If we use Thailand as an example numbers of European built cars or American cars are on the roads in limited numbers due to

Not many importers willing to import cars to Thailand due to excessive tariffs and taxes

and not many customers willing to pay excessive price compared to a similar vehicle with no tariffs and taxes

757,654 new vehicles were exported from the EU to the US in 2024 I would expect that number to decrease with a 32.5% tariff especially for the medium range of cars

And Ford is moving out of the US, along with Boeing and John Deere because of it. Less jobs, less taxes, less Trump. Companies and countries are reacting to the stupidity and walking away with their wallets.

Where is your supporting link to backup your claims

Myth Busted: John Deere is NOT Freezing U.S. Manufacturing

Let’s clear the air. John Deere is not shutting down U.S. manufacturing. In fact, it’s quite the opposite.

$20 Billion Commitment to U.S. Manufacturing

We’re making a bold move by investing $20 billion into U.S. manufacturing over the next 10 years. That’s a powerful signal of our long-term commitment to building and growing right here at home

Correct. One thing is certain. He is accomplishing very little, he will NOT bring manufacturing back to America, which is stupid over priced (I am here now and inflation is raging at 20% or higher right now), he is causing alot of pain, he is losing support, destroying businesses, and consumer confidence, he does not have a coherent plan, and he is a destructive nimwit.

Globalization made the world great, the manufacturing ecosystems within globalization and low tariffs allowed the US economy to thrive for decades, and he's never going to bring back manufacturing to the US. End of story, just a slogan. The fact that so many people are buying into his nonsense and destruction, is what is truly sad.

There's a reason why that's taking place, there's a reason why manufacturing has shifted overseas. It didn't happen in a vacuum and that manufacturing will not return to the US, not during our lifetime. It is just a slogan and a concept that he used to very craftily deceive millions of people into voting for him.

Case in point - it takes 15-18 years to start a copper mine then bring it to full productivity. I honestly think he's trying to destroy the US, prepare it for a foreign interest takeover.

Agree.Yesterday EU and Mexico get 30%.The leading economists around the world say its the americans who will suffer.Anyway they get what they voted for.

  • Popular Post

It’s a total mess. As the Ford Motor chief executive Jim Farley courageously (compared to other chief executives) pointed out, “Let’s be real honest: Long term, a 25 percent tariff across the Mexico and Canada borders would blow a hole in the U.S. industry that we’ve never seen.”

So, either Trump wants to blow that hole, or he’s bluffing, or he is clueless. If it is the latter, Trump is going to get a crash course in the hard realities of the global economy as it really is — not how he imagines it.

Ecosystems? Listen a bit to Beinhocker, who is also the executive director of the Institute for New Economic Thinking at the Oxford Martin School. In the real world, he argues, “There is no such thing as the American economy anymore that you can identify in any real, tangible way. There’s just this accounting fiction that we call U.S. G.D.P.” To be sure, he says, “There are American interests in the economy. There are American workers. There are American consumers. There are firms based in America. But there is no American economy in that isolated sense.”

The old days, he added, “where you made wine and I made cheese, and you had everything you needed to make wine and I had everything I needed to make cheese and so we traded with each other — which made us both better off, as Adam Smith taught — those days are long gone.” Except in Trump’s head.

Instead, there is a global web of commercial, manufacturing, services and trading “ecosystems,” explains Beinhocker. “There is an automobile ecosystem. There’s an A.I. ecosystem. There’s a smartphone ecosystem. There’s a drug development ecosystem. There is the chip-making ecosystem.” And the people, parts and knowledge that make up those ecosystems all move back and forth across many economies.

As NPR noted in a recent story about the auto industry, “carmakers have built a vast, complicated supply chain that spans North America, with parts crossing back and forth across borders throughout the auto manufacturing process. … Some parts cross borders multiple times — like, say, a wire that is manufactured in the U.S., sent to Mexico to be bundled into a group of wires, and then back to the U.S. for installation into a bigger piece of a car, like a seat.”

Trump just waves off all of this. He told reporters that the U.S. is not reliant on Canada. “We don’t need them to make our cars,” he said.

Actually, we do. And thank goodness for that. It not only enables us to make cars cheaper, but also better. All that a Model T did was get you from point to point faster than a horse, but today’s cars offer you heating and cooling and entertainment from the internet and satellites. They will navigate for you and even drive for you — and they’re much safer. When we can combine more complex knowledge and complex parts to solve complex problems, our quality of life soars.

But here’s the catch. You cannot make complex stuff alone anymore. It’s too complex. And if you are not part of these ecosystems, your country will not thrive.”

And trust is the essential ingredient that makes these ecosystems work and grow, Beinhocker adds. Trust acts as both glue and grease. It glues together bonds of cooperation, while at the same time it greases the flows of people, products, capital and ideas from one country to the next. Remove trust and the ecosystems start to collapse.

Trust, though, is built by good rules and healthy relationships, and Trump is trampling on both. The result: If he goes down this road, Trump will make America and the world poorer. Mr. President, do your homework.
