Crime Teenage Boy Hospitalised After Being Bludgeoned Over ฿300 Debt in Chaiyaphum
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A 13-year-old schoolboy is in serious condition after he was violently attacked by a fellow student with a metal pipe in a dispute over a ฿300 loan. The shocking incident took place in Ban Pong Khong Tai, Huai Ton subdistrict, Mueang district, Chaiyaphum province. Police from Mueang Chaiyaphum Police Station and emergency responders from Chaiyaphum Hospital were called to the scene. There they found a young boy, identified only as Master A, suffering from severe head injuries, his face and torso covered in blood. He was given first aid on site and rushed to hospital. A 2-centimetre wide, 80-centimetre long steel pipe was recovered at the scene and is believed to have been used in the assault. Witnesses confirmed that the alleged attacker, known as Master B, aged 15, is a fellow student at the same school and in Mathayom 3, while the victim is in Mathayom 1. The two boys were reportedly close friends, often spending nights at each other’s homes and having no prior history of serious conflict. According to accounts from the scene, the victim had visited the older boy after school and brought up a ฿300 loan that had been used to purchase an item online. The conversation escalated into a heated argument, culminating in the older boy grabbing a steel pipe and striking the younger student multiple times in the head. Mr. Sangwian, 74, the victim’s grandfather, expressed his disbelief, stating, “They were so close, like brothers. I never imagined something like this could happen. It must have been the money that triggered it.” Police investigator Pol. Lt. Kanti Piansungnoen confirmed that the suspect confessed to the assault and admitted to using the pipe to strike the victim. The steel pipe has been taken in as evidence. Authorities have begun proceedings in accordance with the juvenile justice system. Multidisciplinary child protection officers have been called in to conduct a joint investigation and the legal process will continue under the applicable child and youth laws. Community Neighbours Shocked as Decomposing Body Found in Samut Prakan Room
Picture courtesy of Kaoded. A grisly discovery at a rented apartment in Bang Phli district shocked residents after yellow bodily fluids were seen seeping from Room 14, accompanied by a strong foul odour, leading to the discovery of a man’s body believed to have been dead for several days. At approximately 18:00 on 15 July, Lieutenant Apisit Tonsalee, Deputy Investigation Officer at Bang Phli Police Station, received a report from concerned residents about an overwhelming stench and unusual fluid leaking from a second-floor room and across the communal walkway, at a two-storey rental complex in Moo 1, Yang Chom subdistrict. Police coordinated with forensic medical officers from the Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute and rescue personnel from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation to inspect the scene. Upon arrival, authorities found yellowish, blood-tinged fluid seeping from Room 14 and a powerful odour emanating from within. The door was locked from the inside. The landlord, unable to enter, opened a small window panel to look inside, only to find a man lying motionless on the floor. Police then instructed the landlord to force entry, so that officers could conduct a full investigation. The deceased was identified as Mr. Teerachai Sriwong, 53, originally from Sakon Nakhon province. Based on early assessments, he is believed to have died around three days prior. No signs of external injuries or foul play were detected, and his body was transferred to the Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute for a detailed autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Ms. Thanaporn Techawicharn 50, who lives directly beneath the deceased’s unit, told police that she heard two loud thuds in the early morning several days ago. She shouted in annoyance, thinking it was just noise from upstairs and had no idea something so serious had occurred. She described the deceased as friendly and sociable, often seen drinking with locals in the area. Another friend, Mr. Wanit Phukacharn 52, said that Mr. Teerachai had a long history of alcoholism and had been suffering from various health problems, including a swollen stomach and knees. “I had even given him massages recently. I never imagined he’d pass away like this,” he said. Mr. Natthaphon Sriwong 27, the deceased’s son, revealed that his parents had separated and his father had been living alone in the rented room. “I used to visit him regularly. The last time I saw him was on Friday evening. He seemed fine, we talked and he looked healthy,” he said. He also mentioned that earlier that same day, a hospital had called to report that his father had visited due to complications related to chronic alcohol use, which dated back to his youth. Due to being at work in a factory at the time, Mr. Natthaphon was unable to process all the details until he returned home. He was unaware anything was seriously wrong until news of his father’s death reached him. The investigation is ongoing, though police currently suspect natural causes linked to chronic health issues. In Thailand: Is the loss of one's intellectual peer group a unique form of silence?
Dear Gamma, Truly, a tour de force of reflective melancholy. A lamentation worthy of ancient philosophers… if those philosophers had been exiled to a tropical climate and found themselves explaining Benny Hill reruns to a crowd that only knows TikTok dances. And yes, Gamma, I too know that silence. That dead-eyed, blink-blink stare you get when you make a clever quip about Thatcher or drop a sly reference to Monty Python, only to be met with the same expression you’d get from a water buffalo pondering astrophysics. You have captured it beautifully: the tragic, noble burden of being the last keeper of the sacred intellectual flame, bravely reciting tales of political farce and pub trivia to an audience that just wants to know if you want sticky rice with your som tam. Do I miss it, Gamma? Oh, every single day. I miss the warm comfort of witty repartee, the sparkling back-and-forth of shared cultural shorthand… all of it now replaced with the steely-eyed determination to mime out what a direct debit is to my bank manager. But fear not, Gamma. For when the world seems dim, when the sharp edges of our minds risk going dull in the tropical sun, we always have this little corner of cyberspace… a sacred circle of scattered madmen and misplaced academics… keeping each other just intelligent enough to feel superior to the world around us, and just self-aware enough to realise it no longer matters. Long may we grumble. Long may we whinge. And long may we cling to these final scraps of smug intellectualism, even if it’s just to make ourselves feel special while ordering noodles. With utmost reverence, Another proud curator of useless knowledge
