Instant Savoury Delight: French Salami Debuts in Thai 7-Eleven

BANGKOK - French culinary flair is making its way to Thailand's convenience stores, as Charoen Pokphand Foods (CPF) introduces Bucher Rosette Salami and Bucher Chorizo Salami from France at 7-Eleven. Starting from July 31, 419 select branches will offer these gourmet delights, with further expansions planned across Bangkok and tourist hotspots.

Crafted by renowned Montagne Noire, in collaboration with the French Embassy, these premium cold cuts target discerning shoppers and international visitors. Presented in 30-gramme Grab & Go packs, priced at 59 baht, they're perfect with a glass of wine or a cheese platter and available at select stores.

"This is the first time authentic French salami is available at a convenience store like 7-Eleven," stated Sucharit Mailarp, Senior Managing Director of CPF Global Food Solutions. "We aim to make premium products more accessible to Thai consumers and tourists."

The initial rollout targets 419 branches, with expansion plans across Bangkok and its sprawling network of over 6,000 stores. CPF envisions these high-end snacks reaching 50% of all 7-Eleven locations eventually, according to Brand Buffet.

Sucharit explained that the company is examining consumer behaviour to steer its future offerings. "We are studying our customer base for potential expansion. Changes in product size and packaging are on the horizon to match spending trends."

"In the past, shoppers might have spent 50–60 baht. Now, it’s 30–40 baht," Sucharit noted. "Smaller package sizes could encourage more purchases."

CPF’s premium concept adapts to economic shifts, highlighting health-focused choices without hefty price tags. "Economic downturns lead to health-consciousness. Premium isn’t just about price; it’s about well-being," Sucharit added.

We predict that tourist-centric areas like Phuket and Pattaya will thrive with these French-style salamis, as they appeal to global tastes and food trends. With this strategic move, CPF appears poised to entice the palates of both locals and tourists.

The salami’s debut marks a significant expansion of international flavours in Thailand's retail space, with its unique appeal likely to shape future culinary offerings in convenience stores nationwide.

Salami, salami, baloney.

Chorizo ?
Thats a bold claim. Can't wait to try it

If the sevens installed a pie warmer and offered a decent pastie or steak & kidney pie, I'd be impressed. Fermented bacterial slices of pork offcuts, not so much. :coffee1:

30 grams for 59 Baht.

The 300 gram from Spain had cost less than 200.

Now 360!

Chorizo is anything but French 😊

Yes indeed, crazy prices, but what do you expect from CPF, all insane prices.
Eat ham almost daily, but with those absurd prices, I started making it myself, affordable and tastier. Similarly with bacon, I also now make it myself.
Previously you could buy reasonably priced paté´'s at BigC, sourced from Carrefour, but that too has disappeared and....make it myself now, but a bit more difficult.

Finally some good news...!!

Really bad. Even in Pattaya the choice of Casino stuff has gone down. Not to speak of Khon Kaen where BigC is hardly worth a visit. That happens in a market with so little competition.

Two clans controlling most of retail.

Been a long time since I had some of that...

Firstly, Hungarian salami is VASTLY superior to French salami. If they'd debut Hungarian salami, that would be reason to get excited.

Secondly, that's the wrong French sausage, the best one from France is the Saucisson Sec, which has already been available in Tops, Rimping and Big C.

Spanish Chorizo is available in varios shops around CM. Even the BigC has had it already over a year ago.

So the "cheap price" for "Salami" is 195bht/100gr. You can get good whole french salami (named "saucisson sec") in CM in certain Rimping stores for less. Of course you have to peel and cut it yourself and the diameter is smaller than a typical italian "Salami Milanese".

Just try it once. And calculate by weight, not by packing.

Again, quality reporting...

So these small packages come at about 2,000THB/kg, wow.  And chorizo isn't French, so...  CP isn't rich enough, it seems.

I hope CP is prepared for the stampede of Isaan locals excited to pick up packs of salami to go with their evening glass of Pinot Noir.😋

French salami? Never heard of it.

Probably because French Salami is not all that great, apart from Saucisson Sec.

With Salami Hungary is the undisputed Superpower, followed by Germany, and then Italy. Though the Russians and Poles also have some good ones.

So inacurate. Chrizo is Spanish salami. Overpriced due to the huge Thai import taxes, awaiting Trump will muzzle them

So much irony and "inacurate" [sic] also, what is "Chrizo" [sic]?

Ultra processed rubbish.

It's been shown time and time again that these meats are harmful because of their high fat, high sodium and high levels of nitrates.

Of course I used to eat all of them when I wasn't aware of the health implications, but I haven't touched any processed meat in many years.

You forgot to add high content of fat, preservatives and additives, a picture of health, just what the doctors

ordered.

Do you know what name its under ?
I've not seen it here in Kanchanaburi at Big C or TOPS.

Do any of these places that have Chorizo deliver ?  Anyone have any line or WA connections ?

As a Hispanic/Creole home, we miss Hispanic food the most.

Spanish

TGM has a Chorizo, but rarely is it stocked.   Tasty, though TBH, have nothing to compare it to.  Always buy it when I find it.

Good afternoon

Sorry to say, I stopped buying the Chorizo about a yer ago :). I switched to Serrano. The price starts (not so often) from 169bht/100gr. Normally 189 or higher.

I bought the last time via Lazada - gave it a try - 1kg (whole piece) costed 1095bht. It came perfectly packed with cooling elements. Temp. at arrival was 11°C, which is ok for a vacuumed air-dried meat.

It had still some rind / slab on it. But after cutting that and some fat away, I still had 965gr.

You need a cutting maschine to make thin slices - what we have :). If you are interested- send me a pn. I don't want to be an advertiser here.

There's a Belgian guy in Hua Hin producing different types of dry cured sausages. Baan Fostier on Shopee or on his FB page... or https://baanfostier.com

This Spanish import is available in most expat shops, 129 to 149 for 80g, delicious!
