Dusit Zoo will not be moved out of Bangkok: Zoological Park Organization chief

BANGKOK: -- The Zoological Park Organization has made a final decision not to move the Dusit Zoo out of Bangkok, the organization's director said Friday.

Sophon Damnui, director of the organization, said a committee in charge of making the decision had made a permanent resolution to keep the Dusit Zoo at its current location.

He said the committee decided to keep the Dusit Zoo as the cheapest venue for recreation and learning for youths in the capital.

The committee also found that the zoo had buildings and landscapes with historical value so it should not be moved away.

I am glad they are not going to move it..........it is, perhaps, the best green space in all of Bangkok. I enjoy going there to get away from the pollution/noise of Bangkok.

I hope the money it would have taken to move is used to renovate the place--tiny, depressing cages, poor pathetic animals. I can't even go there.

A 19th century attitude in the 21st century.

In this day and age of the internet and where travel is relatively cheap, some zoos, like circuses are still used as entertainment for people with scant regard for the welfare of the animals kept, usually in unnatural and cramped quarters. Some zoos in the world do an admirable job but for the most part they are an anachronism. Turn the place into a landscaped botanical garden like Singapore's.
