The Benfica midfielder, 21, was a guest of Everton for their home game with Blackburn on Saturday after passing a medical with the Premier League club.

But Valencia report on their website that Fernandes will be presented as their new player on Monday. He will join the Spanish club on a six-year deal for a reported £12m.

THE EVERTON team paid their respects to Blues-mad schoolboy Rhys Jones as they visited the scene of his murder.

Led by captain Phil Neville the players, dressed in full Everton kit, left a blue and white football made of flowers from everyone at the club along with signed football boots and shirts from the players.

The team bowed their heads in a silent tribute to the 11-year-old Everton fan.

All of Rhys’s favourite players, including Joleon Lescott, Joseph Yobo, Mikel Arteta and Andy Johnson, made time before training to visit the makeshift shrine that has sprung up close to the pub car park where Rhys was shot.

Hundreds of bouquets, Everton shirts, condolence cards have been left from people touched by the youngster’s death.

Mr Neville said: "We all feel very sad. We are here today to pay our respects and appeal to anyone to come out and give information about the person who did this terrible thing.

"Rhys was an 11-year-old lad and massive Evertonian. We just hope this thing never happens again."

z cars anthem to be played at anfield on tusday night (request by lpool fans) magmanous gesture from a football city

I think 99% of football fans feel the same way, and would love to see some of the socail ills rooted out of society. A tragic event, which has taken a way the life of a young lad who had a great love of the game, at least we can see by the response that football fans do care about other things then just their own team.

Terrible story. I have just read about it on the BBC.

But its great that a City with such fierce rivalry can join together in greif....well done Liverpool.

I,ll second that, saw the Liverpool Tribute on Sky news before the start.

Who could fail to be moved by such displays of human kindness and the putting aside of such strong rivalries to unite and pay such tributes.

The fact that the Z cars theme was played before the Liverpool game is an event unheard of says so much.

Let us hope the Rhys could somehow witness the genuine outpouring of mutual grief, along with his parents standing proudly at both games for what must have been heartwrenching and a famous football city coming together.
