HUD data shows around 40% of the homeless already work, just not enough to cover rent. “Too many handouts” is a myth — most aid is temporary and nowhere near enough to make idleness a lifestyle.

The court ruled that people could not be institutionalized against their will unless they had been convicted of crimes, or unless the court ruled that they were a menace to themselves or others.
