Umh, Third Geneva Convention.

What does the Geneva Convention say about murdering 1.3 million of you own people or running scam centres.

  • They don't fit on jungle trails.

  • Easier said than done. The parts I've seen here in south Surin province are heavily wooded with rugged terrain up & down. Snipers aren't going to help: The mines are already in place, buried over

  • It is on Cambodian soil which Siam thinks it owns!     Does this include Thai soldiers planting landmines?

The Geneva Convention does not cover internal repression ( other International Law may do, and was applied, in my view half heartedly, to the Khmer Rouge) and it certainly does not apply to commercial scam centres!

Thailand however is a signature to the Conventions, which expressly forbid the use of Prisoners of War from being marched through areas to detonate landmines.

Are you suggesting that commercial scam centres, or the savage actions of the brutal Khmer Rouge some 5 decades ago should remove those provisions and justify what would be a war crime?

"Whataboutery" taken to remarkable heights!

We could perhaps consider in passing the irony of the Thai military (or more accurately it's supporters) including "scams" as a justification for military action!

A couple of really silly posts, in a thread which is sown (like landmines) with silly posts!

Hang on a minute, Cambodia has ratified the Ottawa Convention to stop the use on anti personnel mines. Why is nothing being said about a ratified country planting anti personnel mines?

Do you have any actual proof that Cambodia planted those mines? And that it was done recently?

Just the fact that a Thai army spokesman says so may not be good enough for other countries to condemn Cambodia. It's the same Thai army that had no issues with shooting unarmed Thai civilians on several occasions in the recent past, hardly a paragon of virtue by any standard.

So, after 2 ICJ determinations in favour of Cambodia, Thailand cannot accept the rulings and thus resort to war. Again.

Or is something else in play here?

As I have already pointed out, this is wrong.

Thailand has accepted both ICJ verdicts, where the first one gave Cambodia the temple, and the second one the immediate area around it. Now, Cambodia is claiming a much larger area than what the ICJ awarded them. Thailand has respected the two verdicts by withdrawing from the area awarded to Cambodia, but don't recognize the ICJ's continued authority in ruling on border issues.

In short: Thailand has respected both ICJ verdicts, but is now utlizing its right not to take further border matters to the ICJ, in favor of solving them bilaterally.

Why is it that nowadays, and in the past, everyone wants to bomb, destroy, and kill others? what happened to just talking? or the want to let their guns do the talking?

Well Hun Sen is not exactly a pillar of peace, dead bodies follow in his wake. Sometime its not worth debating why people do evil things, and instead work to eliminate the threat. There is no such thing as Utopia, there will always be another evil entity to popup somewhere, best we can do is find and destroy them before they gain too much power.

There has been several. The last one was yesterday.

There was another land mine explosion this morning ( Thursday 14 th ) resulting in a Thai soldier losing a leg .

Many local villages near the border around Choeng Chom have been told to standby for evacuation . In fact a friends wife has been told by the army to evacuate her business on the route 24 , 5 km outside of Prasat , Surin . Also army tanks etc  seen heading to the border  today .

You are aware of Cambodia's past history? It seems to me it was talking and coming up with a one sided agreement way back that kicked this off.

Or the Cambodians killing 1.3 million. Hardly a paragon of virtue by any standard.

I was merely speaking metaphorically.

Thailand should demand the location of all these landmines, better still, let them clear them..........they probably have no clue where they placed them

You're assuming the location of these mines is correct... do you really trust what either side says... personal I find it hard to believe Cambodian soldiers crossed into Thailand and laid mines, especially considering for many years Cambodia had actively not only demined Cambodia, but has aided other countries.

Um...where was this reported.

Where is the independent visual evidence that Cambodia planted the mines?
