Visa question, hi all. I came to Thailand on 17 Feb07 and got a 30 day tourist visa on landing. Then I went to Vietnam for a day and came back on March 18th got another 30 day and then went back to San Francisco on April 6th where I am presently sitting. I am 54 tomorrow and eventually want to get a reitrement visa. However, I have to wait about 4 or 5 months in Bangkok to save up the difference between income and savings. Do I have to wait until October to come back with this new 160 day issue. I am awfully homesick for my little soi and the everyday kindnesses. Can I come in

September, get a tourist on landing and then go to Penang for a non-im or what does everyone suggest. Thanks catnip P.S. I am so ready to come to one of the bbq's. It killed me when I had to do a visa run on March 17 for the St. Patricks one in Pattaya :o

You did not get a tourist visa in february and you will not get one on arrival when you come back. What you got was a 30 day visa exempt stamp.

Why dont you get a Non Immigrant O Visa in the USA. You would probably be able to get a multi entry which would give you up to 15 months stay. Reason for aplying would be to investigate retirement.

With a Visa you can come back any time you want.

Thanks for the reply. I am concerned about this 160 day counting thing. And I would rather get a landing visa and then go to Penang for a non-imm. I don't like sending my passport anywhere through the mail, just my own paranoia. So, would I be okay if I came in Sept, got a landing visa and then went out to get a non im reason still being investigating retirement, thanks for any replies catnip

1. There is not any 160 day count. Perhaps you are thinking of the six month limit on visa exempt entry?

2. Arrival without a visa means you have to get both airline and immigration to carry/admit you. That may well require an outbound ticket within 30 days of entry.

3. You should have no trouble getting a tourist visa or two to cover the time you need to obtain retirement money/3 month in account rule (you have included that?).

4. You may be able to talk a Consulate into issue of a non immigrant O visa but that is not something you can be sure about.

Thank you lopburi 3. That is the exact information I needed and the 160 day confusion ended. best catnip
