New 50 and 100 Baht Notes to Debut in Polymer Form

Featured Replies

I believe 50 and 20 Baht notes have been made of polymer for many years.

Funny that people complain of plastic in the seas and on beaches, but you never find banknotes. :omfg:

Yes, but if you fold those plastic notes, on purpose or accidentally, you won't be able to flatten them again. Kind of annoying if you want to exchange them, or just pay with the notes that you can't flatten out again.

So if covid comes back , we can clean them with IPA ?

I would rather drink the India Pale Ale than use it to clean banknotes.....😋

Forget 50 and 100 Baht notes. What is needed is a 10,000 Baht note. Perfect for a full evening out. Drinks, Lady Drinks, Barfine and Short time all taken care of in a single bill with no bulging pockets! 🙂

i don't like them

No, they did not get rid of the polymer B50!

The 15th series 50 baht polymer note was in use from 1997 to 2004.   https://en.numista.com/catalogue/note202941.html

No doubt there are still some  hidden away but you would have had to have been here a few years to remember it going from polymer back to paper in general circulation.

Previously, the Bank of Thailand had issued two circulating 50-baht and one 500-baht commemorative polymer banknote. The bank discontinued use of polymer, but due to current, advanced technology, the print quality and durability are much better than before. It is planned to switch the other denominations to polymer as well.

Or a least a 5000 B note.

The longer-term residents will remember, that such 50 Baht notes, printed in Australia back in the day, were available in Thailand 20+ years ago already. They disappeared later on, stating that the production would be too expensive.

Given the loss of the Baht over the years and the galloping inflation I wonder, why out of the blue those - arguably much better quality - banknotes now are resurfacing.

Yet another mystery of Thailand most likely ...........
