Draft Const Weekend 18/19/20

Featured Replies

Dear Expats,

Hope everybody had an enjoyable Monday off, today, and is recovering from weekend! Here in Vietnam life is tough and we are just dreaming of all those extra days you get every year.

Now, next Monday is another Public holiday due to Draft constitution vote. I am due to arrive this Friday and wonder whether clubs/bar/restaurants will close at midnight Saturday to Sunday???

Anybody knows already??

Many thanks!

It was reported in the Bangkok Post last week that a Referendum is not covered under Electoral Law and that therefore pubs, bars etc will be free to open as normal.

Can't vouch for the accuracy of the Bangkok Post - they've been known to be wrong before.

I heard basically the same thing and two friends of mine who own bars say they are staying open unless they hear to the contrary...

Since the actual vote is on Sunday, it makes sense to allow alcohol sales on Monday. The intent of the holiday is to allow people that have to go upcountry to vote to get back to where they live and work on Monday. Of course, it could get caught up in the anti-drunk driving effort and get banned that way. It will probably be up to each individual police district to enforce how they feel like it
