FBI Fires Agents for Kneeling at George Floyd Protest

The FBI has terminated a group of agents who were photographed kneeling at a racial justice protest following the death of George Floyd, US media have reported. The termination letter reportedly mentioned a "lack of judgement" in their actions, with between 15 to 20 agents dismissed, according to a source spoken to by CBS News. The FBI has not commented publicly on the matter, but the FBI Agents Association has condemned the dismissals as a violation of the agents’ rights.

The kneeling incident occurred during a 2020 demonstration, when Floyd, a black man, was killed by a police officer kneeling on his neck, igniting international outrage. This event prompted widespread protests against racial injustice. The reported firings align with actions from the Trump administration aimed at removing so-called "woke" policies from federal establishments.

The act of kneeling by agents received criticism from right-wing commentators on social media, but supporters highlighted it as a method to ease tensions rather than an endorsement of protestor views. The gesture has come to symbolise dissent against racism, notably after Floyd's death where footage showed white officer Derek Chauvin pressing on Floyd’s neck for over nine minutes. Chauvin is serving a 22-and-a-half-year sentence for his murder.

Taking the knee had been used previously in the US as a protest form against racial injustice, popularised by former NFL player Colin Kaepernick before Floyd's killing. This recent firing is part of a series of dismissals at the FBI, with notable figures such as former acting director Brian Driscoll and former special agent in charge of the Las Vegas field office Spencer Evans also being let go.

Earlier this month, three former agents sued FBI Director Kash Patel and US Attorney General Pam Bondi, asserting their dismissals were intended to appease former President Donald Trump. The FBI Agents Association stated that Patel's measures are "weakening the Bureau" and impairing its capability to recruit skilled agents, thereby purportedly risking national security.

Key Takeaways

  • The FBI has fired agents for kneeling at a George Floyd protest, citing poor judgement.
  • The dismissals are linked to the Trump administration's stance against "woke" policies.
  • The FBI Agents Association claims the terminations risk the agency’s operational strength.

Must not have compassion and empathy for what people of color have gone through!!must keep the boot on the neck!!must NEVER show empathy and compassion and knowledge that crimes and repression have happened to them!!!as a group….thats how trumpers justify their racism by disparaging George Floyd…yup he WAS a lowlife no doubt BUT he’s the flash point for centuries of repression not the nonsense trumpers try to make him out to be.

Don't call them abos. Racist comment.

Another presidential decree or was it his lap dog Kash wielding the axe?

Good.

We had some simps in the UK doing it as well. Pathetic.

Good. White guilt is the epitome of racism and it certainly shows lack of judgment and respect for fellow red blooded people. Anyway, that was quite the eye roll episode in history.

No. It’s another “put the lefties in their spot” axing the woke nutzho nonsense.

But, according to the story, these agents weren’t kneeling in deference to Derek Chauvin (the “violent criminal” in this case -- who murdered George Floyd in the street by slowly strangling him to death). They were kneeling in deference to the victim, namely Floyd. Your statement is incoherent.

I would have no problem kneeling for some aboriginals but there are many I would not  pee on if they were on fire, I have had many great aboriginal friends that I served with as well as associated with when I was contracting in outback Australia. Like all other people there are good and bad, I have seen both over many years, you kneel to show respect, not for some BS woke political reason

Very bad, and it shows just how bad an example the FBI leadership has been politicised.

Keep sacking everybody and then wonder why there is no respect for those above you, Then the leadership will be complaining that there is nobody available to do the work.

And, rightly so.  They should all sue, and would likely win.  Ludicrous reason to fire someone.

Ha! You’ve got to be kidding, right? No law enforcement agency in the US would allow a detail unit to engage with an assembly or protest that they’re monitoring without serious repercussions and consequences. Your statement is complete nonsense and irrationally unreal.

I can understand how hard it must be for you to understand a different viewpoint, but I post what I think and feel, not what you or anybody else thinks that I ought to feel.

True that George Floyd was not the nicest guy in the world, BUT, he was killed by the forces of law and order. He was NEVER given the opportunity to go to trial, just simply killed by a police officer.

Too much kneeling will make the knee grow

Two brave agents remained standing whilst the other sheep all knelt. I salute them for risking backlash from their colleagues and hierarchy while everyone was jumping on the GF bandwagon. I feel that they should be given some sort of commendation.

George Floyd was no saint, to put it mildly.

Why would they need a commendation? They chose to stand while others chose to kneel out of respect. Neither were right or wrong and neither should be punished or rewarded.
