PM Anutin Welcomes Trump’s Offer, Sets Peace Talk Conditions

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has responded to US President Donald Trump's proposal to mediate peace talks between Thailand and Cambodia. Anutin welcomed the gesture but insisted that negotiations must adhere to specific principles. These include the withdrawal of military forces from disputed areas, removal of intruders, clearance of hazardous materials, and respect for Thailand's sovereignty.

This stance follows reports by Politico that Trump would attend the Asean Summit in Malaysia, contingent on presiding over a peace agreement signing between the two nations. The summit, scheduled for 26–28 October in Kuala Lumpur, could host the signing on its sidelines. However, the White House has denied linking Trump’s attendance to the signing.

Politico also noted that the White House requested the exclusion of Chinese officials from the summit, supposedly to highlight Trump's role and minimise Beijing’s mediation efforts between Bangkok and Phnom Penh. The White House denies this exclusion request. Reports link Trump's efforts to potential Nobel Peace Prize aspirations, but his administration disputes this assertion.

Thailand's Foreign Ministry indicates the decision rests with Malaysia, the current Asean chair. Anutin expressed readiness for dialogue if conditions were met, emphasising that Thailand and Cambodia are neighbours and contrasting Trump's external involvement. He stated that if Trump persuades Cambodia to comply, it would safeguard Thailand's interests.

Regarding reports of Cambodia nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize to enhance political ties, Anutin commented that his priority is Thailand’s benefit. Trump’s interest in the prize has been noted, claiming credit for resolving multiple international conflicts. The Nobel Peace Prize winner will be announced on Friday.

Key Takeaways

  • PM Anutin demands specific conditions for peace talks with Cambodia.
  • Trump’s Asean Summit attendance is linked by reports to peace mediation.
  • White House denies Trump’s attendance is contingent on a peace deal.

That´s a good start, but I find it difficult to reach.

Keep Trump out of ANY peace talks.

His success record so far is zero, despite all his blustering.

I can remember his claim of ending the war between Russia and the Ukraine where he claimed that he could end it in one day, even before he was elected. Yet it is still going on.

How about the Israel/Gaza war ending?

Or the war in Rwanda, does that ring any bells?

An independent organization as the International court is not recognized, but if Trump only favours Thailand they will accept the ruling...And Thailand forgot their close ties with China who will never accept that Trump will be the intermediator.. Thailand is already a spare province of China

What has the US world police got to do with it, anyway?

Oh my. Imagine Trump telling Thailand we have to be prepared to give up land, maybe allow him to build casinos on disputed land.

What about a peacekeeping force, ex-Khmer Rouge and Kutoys from Phuket and Pattaya,

I think they're confused as to what he has meant to have done

No mention of respect for Cambodian sovereignty?

here’s a new chance for peace. The world woke up on Thursday to the news that Israel and Hamas had agreed to a new cease-fire plan — the first step of a peace agreement negotiated by President Donald Trump and mediated by Qatar and Egypt. The deal — which includes the return of Hamas’s roughly 20 remaining hostages as well as Israel’s release of 2,000 Palestinian prisoners —

Anutin will find a way to get that bread buttered ..    and it starts with staying with the winning team

If the guy wasn't trying to broker peace you'd still be knocking him. At least now there's a hope. Trumps doing his bit, it's now up to the other parties involved.

Some would argue that Russia would not have invaded Ukraine had Trump been in office at the time. Anyway, it looks as though there is progress for peace in Gaza. In Rwanda a peace agreement with the DRC was signed on the 27th of June this year, 2025.

HE says he's done more than anyone else. We have come to expect him to say that. He wants a Nobel Peace Prize because Obama got one (which I didn't agree with when it happened).  How someone can even be considered for a peace prize at the same time they're sending troops to battle with the peaceful citizens of their own country is mind boggling.

Here we have peaceful protestors ice fishing in Portland. 😉😅

What has that got to do with Thailand and Cambodia and Cambodia.

It may be some sort of answer but not in this thread or topic.

Nice try but no cigar.

So tell us all what he has done and succeeded at.

When King Donald invites you for talks, you don't set conditions. You show up and listen to the great man's great plan.

Now the peace prize has gone he lose interest in this backward little neck of the woods.

Murdering citizens in international waters without regard as to confirming nationality and any criminal purpose, Add to that assisting another Middle East nation in committing genocide against a civilian population, complacent with genocide of Ukrainian citizens and ignoring Russian murder of POW's?

Aside from rightly bombing Iran and other ME shenanigans, not starting a big war is a pretty decent feat for a US president, what with all that power available. If I were in that position and also ancient, what a tempter to quickly rub out Russia, China and other undesirables!

And Thailand walks between the raindrops. It always has, but it knows where the umbrella is.
