Ununtu Wubi 7.0

Featured Replies

cnet ran vid (short) that put a Ubuntu version Wubi 7.0 which loads onto the same partition as xp and runs as a program. can even remove using the add/remove program in control panel. Very thing reads to good to be true. Anyone know the pitful does it really work?

Interesting application. Basically runs a virtual environment and virtual disk under XP. As such there will be a performance hit since it has to share CPU and memory together. If you have the computing resources (mainly memory) looks useful for some. I personally run all my linux distributions under VMWare for evaluation so it is a similar concept. So looks useful to evaluate Ubuntu without using a live CD or messing with ones hard drive.

//Edit - looking closer at the documentation it appears it doesn't co-exist with XP but allows you to choose which one to run from so the performance hit is probably not a issue.

The only caveat I see of course is it is "beta". :o
