Farang Wants To Buy Property On Koh Samui

I talk to my Thai friends and they buy real estate directly from other village people in a person to person transaction. There is no paper on anything except the paper they make up for the sale. I never hear about anything going wrong with these transactions. If someone is not going to create a hotel or something that costs a lot of money, I don't see what's wrong with this process if you are not looking to flip and just want to build something for yourself that you will hold onto for a long time.

Its not like one of these parties is going to come back and sue you. They most likely don't have additional cash for this kind of thing.

Yeah that works until someone lays claim to the land and orders you off..

Heard a similar story recently about how his thai mother in law was being turfed off what they thought was thier land by the local 'powers of influence'.. No one will help, no police will get involved, and the Thai attitude of mai pen rai and fatalism was 'well we are just the little people, what can you do'..

Do you really want to buy something and have zero proof of ownership ?? No wonder so many people get burnt.

If you build a shack, or some alternative type of housing, do you think someone will order you off your land so they can live in the shack? I think you are more thinking we are talking about a California style villa house that Thai's would love to live in.

They might not want to live in your shack, maybe they want to build a California style villa house on your land.

You think they would need my land? They could go on any land. A lot of gov land has been taken by villagers that way. That's much easier than confronting some crazy farang for his land I don't know of any villagers that have money to build a California style house. If they do, they most likely will be buying their own land. I see very little downside of buying land in a remote area unless you step on some local bigwigs toes.

In that case i have some land for sale. (it is not really mine but that is beside the point.)

It is somewhere in the middle of nowhere and it has no papers whatsoever. No hassles!

I often wonder why TV even has a property section, a condo investment section and a house/land investment warning on it is all that is needed.

Sections like this just encourage castles in the sky and dodgy con men to try and get in on the action.

It is simply amazing that so many people continue to buy into these scams and bad investments.

It is simply amazing that so many people continue to talk about this issue since 2 years in this forum and nothing

bad happen, no one report a bad experience like money lost or house or land, vice versa its a good investment,

good money, good profit the rest are only words, no facts.

Buy a holiday house for pleasure or investment it is pretty safe and normal if you respect the basic rules

and you have good advises.

Obviously if some wants speculate to much thats another issue but this kind of people are keen to risk money

because it's the same for them to play in Casino or stocks market.

Yea, Thailand has a real stable economy. Is that why they've had to seize power by Military Coups' several times before? This is an investors dream! People love to invest in 'stable' economies like Thailand. You never know what your gonna get!?!?!?!?!?!
