As a ex retired  butcher i dont understand why aus beef is cheaper than buying in australia its sent here vac packed and sliced surely the transport costs alone one would think it would be more expensive im not complaining and i buy nz Lamb as well 

Australian beef is export oriented and the vast majority is exported - bulk sales in large packages (not cut up).

Costs in Australia to butcher, package, transport and all the taxes and on-costs make the end product more expensive.

Coles and Woolies dominate and they price gouge - pay SFA to farmers and add huge margins.

I buy Harvey brand @ Makro, and best option I've found in TH for beef, especially where we live, as almost the only option IMHO. 

 

Added advantage of cutting your own, thick, steaks.

How do they get the Australian meat to Thailand,?

 

When I was in Manila Philippines last year they had a Australian Woolworths supermarkets in  a few suburbs and the Australian meat was same price as in Australia

Sometimes, you see an Australian product for sale below cost here.  The reason is, they are trying to break into the market by tempting people to buy, and taking some market share from their competitors.  Once popular, the price goes up.

Australia is the largest beef supplier to Thailand and has been for years.

We dont agree on many things, but what you said is correct - you were referring to 'Australian Products'.  I have seen the same myself over the years - what I do is check prices now and then and when they cut prices I then buy - then next week they will be back up again.

I remember seeing Yellow Tail wine in, from memory, I think it was Malaysia, many years ago.  I remember how cheap it was, so I compared its price to one of the large alcohol retailers in Australia and it was around the same price in Malaysia, despite the transport costs and import duties, so, they had to be selling it at a loss.  

 

A quick Google search and I see it's selling for 63 Malaysian Ringgit now. That's about $23.25AUD each.  Dan Murphy's in Australia sell it at $8AUD a bottle.  

 

As mentioned, sell it cheap, even at a loss, break into the market, take some market share from your competitors, force your competitors to compete, then up the price going forward.  A common tactic, globally.
