Thailand’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAAT) has issued Announcement No. 10, banning all drone flights in designated districts across seven provinces from 16–30 November 2025 due to continuing security concerns along the Thai–Cambodian border. The agency said the overall situation remains sensitive and requires close monitoring, prompting security authorities to request an extension of strict no-fly zones. The restrictions will remain in force until the end date or until a further notice is issued.

The ban covers specific districts in Sa Kaeo, Buri Ram, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Ubon Ratchathani, Trat and Chanthaburi, where unauthorised drone activity could affect national security operations. Additional restricted areas include a 9-kilometre radius around designated airports and any zones declared by security agencies on a case-by-case basis. CAAT confirmed that these measures support ongoing security operations along the border, where authorities maintain an elevated state of readiness.

Under the rules, drone operators must be fully registered with CAAT and submit flight approval requests at least three days in advance via the UAS Portal application. Approved flights must remain below 90 metres and operate only between 06.00 and 18.00 unless special permission is granted, though flying is strictly prohibited between 00.01 and 04.00. Operators must also notify CAAT and the Anti-Drone Operations Centre at [email protected] of their flight area, date, time and purpose prior to each operation.

CAAT stated that the directive results from ongoing assessments jointly conducted with security agencies, which concluded that certain locations still require strict controls to support active operations. At the same time, the authority emphasised that it has eased restrictions in most parts of the country to support public and commercial drone use while maintaining safety. Officials said the measures aim to balance national security needs with practical access for drone users, provided they follow rigorous conditions.

Naewna eported that CAAT will continue to closely monitor developments along the Thai–Cambodian border and will adjust measures depending on changing security conditions. The agency reiterated its commitment to ensuring drone operations remain safe, regulated and compatible with public order. Further announcements will be issued should restrictions be expanded, reduced or lifted.
