New Police Scam!

Got stopped on Monday night at 23:30 coming from Dong muang tollway towards Ding Deang tollway. While prepairing cash for the tool booth a police officer came to me and told me I was driving to fast. I asked him how fast I was going. He told me 180 km/h. I thought for a split second and told him that it was impossible cause I was driving 120 km/h. Asked him to see the pictures....he said that he couldn't right now... I have to pay now! (I know its not always possible to see the ticket and at during day light you just give your passport and collect it when picture is printed, incl. paying the fine)

Ok, now I had enough and told him that I was only driving 120 and wanted to speak to his supervisor. He than told me like..ehhmm, hmmm etc....ok go, you go now!

Now, I knew he was lying as I was driving well over 210km/h on this strech! Forgive me for speeding but at night its just beautifull to do so as there is hardly any traffick.

So next time you get stopped AT NIGHT for speeding just bluff!

Er. you were doing over 120 MPH on the Don Muang tollway??? We all speed, but that's well over TWICE the speed limit!!

You deserve to be locked up, in the UK it would net you an (enforced) 1 year ban, would that be a scam too?

What ever, aint going to flame or comment on flames. I have had cops try to bluff me about speeding. some times bluff, sometimes they really have equipment these days.

Seems like a new way to make pocket Money. As for the "picture", many cops in Oz have a hand held radar gun. Even if they lie, if they say u were speeding..... ur screwed (they dont have pics too )

Yet another "It's a scam" posting but at least the OP got something right - his avatar! What an ********!

Normally when stopped for speed you get asked to come to the desk and show all papers and pay the fine. Which is fair enough!. But in this case he just walked up to me at the toll booth and was just guessing. As for such I call it a "scam" as he could do the same to people who do drive at the correct speed. Wasn't even re-directed to any desk as it was near mid night and no cars on the road.

With your avatar behind the wheel you wouldn't even be able to handle min. speed.

Nice one Ray. :o

I was stopped in Isaan and the cops said I must have been going at 120 KPH, I said they were wrong, I was doing 170 KPH.

100 baht and a salute later, I was on my merry way.

People moan about Police corruption, but I would have lost my license in many countries, here it cost me 100 Baht. Good innit !

Good for you Ray.

You still dont seem to grasp that YOU WERE BREAKING THE LAW!!!!!!!! whether or not he can just walk up to somebody and accuse them of speeding is different. If by some chance you were driving at the correct speed limit, Though reading between the lines I figure thats doubtful, then you could call it a scam. As it is YOU are the one scamming. Thais driving like idots and nutters is understandable. For a farang to do it shows contempt for the laws of the land as you do know better. :o

Give the guy a break Mr jobsworth. Do you obey the ridiculously low speed rules here or back home on a straight flyover at midnight? Yes he was technically breaking the law...ridiculous laws need to be broken. Haven't you done it?

So 1 std for the Thias and 1 std for Falangs???

Sorry but this is stupid.

And as we know in Thialand, the law is an ass... if you can get away with bluffing the cops then go for it!!

I'm sure they have bluffed many of us at one time or another... Fair is Fair...

Another dont frigging get it merchant!!!! Yes mr knob, sorry Durex I have gone above the speed limit several times, but I havent gone on forum calling it a scam. I ait no jobsworth just seems a bit hypocritical to me to be calling a cop a scam artist when hes the one doing the frigging scamming. I get TAXED as I like to call it regularly, especially in Hua Hin. I accept it I dont go screaming and shouting about it I just pay the guy the couple hundred baht he's asking.

There are no roads in Thailand that are safe to drive over 120 kms/hr!

I remember my friend saying how he loved to drive his WRX at 220 through the moo baans that adjoin the country roads near where he lived. Someone noticed his behaviour and backed out a 10 wheel truck in his path.

Sadly he is no more!

If you want to speed go to Germany and drive on an Autoban.

Speeding in Thailand is a privilege and a right. I'm more than happy to pay my friendly copper who stops me a red one or two. I often get a good local restaurant recommendation from them.

You try driving from Phuket to Bangkok and not go over 120! If you want to drive like old ladies, move to Australia.

people like the OP put peoples lives in danger, including mine and my family's. Plain stupid. Hopefully the Darwin awards have a subcategory for people like this.

The OP should think twice about boasting about idiotic (in anyones book) behaviour on the roads. Plus, it is illegal, but that seems like a minor concern to the OP who thinks this is a place to advertise such things, using the flimsy justification for a copper who caught him out but wanted the bribe instead of the fine.
