Phnom Penh brothel raid highlights Cambodia’s wider crackdown

Cambodian authorities have stepped up their fight against illegal brothels in the capital, with the latest raid exposing a venue that was operating under the guise of a bar. On 14 November, military police rescued twelve underage girls and detained the owner of Pa Odom, a bar in Por Sen Chey district that was secretly offering sexual services.

The operation followed reports of suspicious activity and heavy customer traffic. After gathering evidence, the Phnom Penh Military Police, supported by district officers, moved in to shut down the site. Both the owner and the girls were taken to headquarters for questioning and legal proceedings.

Officials say the raid is part of a wider campaign to dismantle establishments that exploit minors and operate outside the law. Police have pledged to continue monitoring nightlife venues across the city, stressing that undercover brothels pose a serious threat to vulnerable young women.

The crackdown reflects growing pressure on authorities to address human trafficking and sexual exploitation. By targeting brothels disguised as bars or massage parlours, police aim to send a clear message that such practices will not be tolerated.

For Phnom Penh, the rescue of underage victims and the closure of illegal venues mark a significant step in the ongoing effort to protect vulnerable communities and restore public confidence in law enforcement

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

Such a shame. And a waste of law enforcement efforts. So misguided. Likely compelled by their CCP overlords.

Such great memories from decades gone by.

I'm a bit confused.  The OP mentions 'minors' quite a lot.  Not sure I like the idea of minors being offered for such services, and I can't easily tally your response with that?  Of course, consenting adults I've no issue with (even if the venue is not 100% legit), just under-agers I'm not supportive of.  Also not supportive of the women (and especially girls) being trafficked.

Back in the day I never encountered anything approaching a minor, they were all grown women. And the vast majority are doing it on their own will, as many have little choice economically.
