Hatyai is a very small town. From the train station just hop on to any tuk-tuk. For 20 - 30 bahts they will take you to the bus terminal where you can travel to anywhere in Thailand.

Willy I would have to disagree that Hat Yai is small. We found it one of the bigger places we have visited. That said getting from the train station to bus station anywhere in Thailand is no problem. Lots of tuktuk taxis or bikes :o

Si did I, its VERY spread out, and the BUsstation from where the buses start its some 6-7 kms away from the SRT and 20 BT wont do that! BUT; about no-one boards the bus there, as they all stop at the big market IN centre town, which is a 10 min walk or 5 min tuk ride from SRT. Buses run at least hourly, daytime, via Pattalung-Trang-Krabi-PangNga and the total trip takes like 7-8 hrs.

So I wonder; IF you come frokm NORTH and want to go to Phuket, do NOT go via HYai, as its a double-leg for some 300 kms.

Besides the big buses there are the hourly minivans, that lve from places scattered all over town. Any tuk-driver will know them. Tell them I want ''rot tua pay Phuket''

as always, decent maps+ this info is also in any normal guidebook.

Do try the crispy pork when the bus stops for a meal-break in Trang, apparently it's a local delicacy, and we found it delish last month !

Or avoid a several-hour bus journey by taking the plane, Nok-Air have recently re-opened the Hat Yai to Phuket route, with a daily 737 at 999 Baht all-in.

Thanks for the info! but i still have questions..

Do the bus go straight to Phuket or is there any stop over?

How much does it cost?

Would it be better if from HatYai Train station i took a train to surat thani station?

Does it took longer?

What bus to take from surat thani?

Thanx again!
