Trump Says Dem Lawmakers Urged ‘Sedition Punishable by Death'

US President Donald Trump has accused Democratic lawmakers of “seditious behaviour, punishable by death” after they urged military personnel to defy unlawful orders. His comments, made on his social media platform, Truth Social, have ignited outrage among Democrats, with some accusing Trump of inciting violence. Trump’s statements drew criticism from both sides, with GOP figures like Senator Lindsey Graham labelling them “over the top.”

Background events reveal that Trump's comments were a reaction to a video featuring six Democratic lawmakers, all military or intelligence veterans, encouraging current officials to refuse illegal orders. The lawmakers, including Senators Elissa Slotkin and Mark Kelly, stated they would not be intimidated, emphasising the importance of following only lawful instructions.

Responses from political leaders have varied. While the White House Press Secretary denied that Trump was advocating executions, calling the lawmakers' message dangerous, House Speaker Mike Johnson defended Trump, suggesting he merely defined sedition. Meanwhile, Democrats like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer condemned Trump’s remarks as a serious threat, reported CNN.

Looking forward, the situation remains tense. Law enforcement is ensuring the safety of the Democratic lawmakers involved. Additionally, the Justice Department is closely examining the incident for any legal implications. As this develops, the political divide in the United States seems to deepen further.

Key Takeaways:

  • Trump's accusations have caused considerable political backlash.
  • Democratic lawmakers insist their comments adhere to legal principles.
  • The incident underscores heightened political tensions in the US.

Sedition is punishable by death. Was what these idiots were saying sedition? Maybe but what it is is really stupid. Calling for military personel to disobey orders is the hight of stupidity.

AI quickie -- Gemini:

This is a crucial and legally complex question. The answer is yes, military personnel have the right, and often the duty, to disobey an order that is clearly or "manifestly" unlawful.

Here's a breakdown of the key principles, particularly under U.S. military law (the Uniform Code of Military Justice - UCMJ) and international standards:

1. The Duty to Disobey Manifestly Unlawful Orders
Lawful Orders Only: Military law, such as Articles 90, 91, and 92 of the UCMJ, requires service members to obey lawful orders. By implication, disobedience of an unlawful order is not punishable under these articles.

Thing is what unlawful orders have been given. Along with this is the fact that military personel are well aware of what constitutes an illegal order.

From this joint statement:

“What’s most telling is that the President considers it punishable by death for us to restate the law. Our servicemembers should know that we have their backs as they fulfill their oath to the Constitution and obligation to follow only lawful orders. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our duty.

And all military personel are well aware of this. Now please give examples of UNLAWFUL orders that have been given by Trump. This is just more distraction from the Dems and highly irresponsible.

The new 'progressive' Democrats are and this is why the Democrats will lose in 2028. They are now the radical left and no longer the party with workers and middle class interests as their priority.

Hmm? I've forgotten. Who was the Democrat that called for the assassination of an entire family? Apart from this Trump didn't call for their death. He simply pointed out what the ulimate consequence of their actions could be.

Funny how Trump's asinine behavior since being re-elected has normalized people to something as outrageous as calling for the death of political opponents.  The number of people just on this forum saying this is no big deal is spectacularly unbelievable and absolutely pathetic.
