November 28, 2025Nov 28 I recently purchased a 3-rai tract of land in Udon Thani Province upon which may wife and I will build a garden home, and I would like to be buried there when I pass away. Does one have to have a special permit for burial on private property or is it forbidden entirely? Does anyone have experience in dealing with this matter?
November 28, 2025Nov 28 No, you generally cannot legally bury a body on private land in Thailand. Burials must take place in designated cemeteries or temple grounds, and the process requires official registration, permits, and compliance with public health regulations
November 28, 2025Nov 28 Popular Post Apart from it being legal or not, have you asked your wife what she feels about you being buried there, I certainty would not want anyone buried in my garden, and with Thais believing in Ghosts Nah, would make a good sales pitch whenever the land is sold....Comes with free buried remains....
November 28, 2025Nov 28 Popular Post Word would soon get around, then the place would be unsellable, the spirt thingy............😱 There are faragy burial places about, linked to religions.........🤗
November 28, 2025Nov 28 I'd say great idea. If you can keep it quiet (your death) and not too many know, then your wife can still probably get any benefits from your home country. If the PuYaiBaan doesn't say anything or fill in any forms on the death, that would be the way to go.

Yea, I didn't think about that. Maybe that's why my wife gave me a strange look when I suggested that I be buried there, and even more so when my American neighbor asked if he could join me and be buried there as well, and I concurred. I buried some of my brother-in-law's cremains in a Jiff peanut butter jar under a tree in our current front yard, and my wife wasn't upset over that. My sister told me that Mace always ate a spoonful of Jiff peanut butter before bed, so I thought the jar was appropriate. Ha!

It will not happen, you will not be buried in her garden..........🤫 In fact, most Thai folk don't like anyone passing on in the house........😬
November 28, 2025Nov 28 Burying your ashes after cremation would probably be ok. I think me wife's grandfather's ashes were buried in the yard after he passed.

December 13, 2025Dec 13 Popular Post Yeah I think it is OK, just last week I saw the brother of the young girl next door burying her elderly falang husband in the back garden of their new-build here in Korat.

My wife's grandfather is buried on a piece of land nearby, but there is nothing else on the land which may or may not be a relevant factor regarding permission.
December 14, 2025Dec 14 I remember reading years ago that there are 2 things we humans owe the earth around us: our excretment and our dead bodies. We are part of the cycle and should be returned to the earth to enrich it. Those burial pods look like a great idea, back we go into Mother Nature, our atoms and molecules returned to the planet.
