In a daring theft, approximately 20,000 rounds of German army ammunition disappeared from a lorry in Burg, Germany. The heist occurred overnight as the driver from a civilian transport firm, hired by the military, left the vehicle unattended. By the time the delivery lorry reached Clausewitz Barracks on 26 November, the ammunition shipment was missing.

The stolen haul reportedly includes 10,000 rounds of live pistol ammunition, 9,900 blanks for assault rifles, and various smoke grenades. The German Defence Ministry acknowledged the theft and has launched an investigation with local police, emphasising concern over the potential misuse of the ammunition. The lack of arrests or identified suspects raises questions about how these weapons-grade supplies might be used.

Reports suggest the driver stayed at a nearby hotel, leaving the lorry in an insecure parking location. Investigators are examining the potential failure to utilise Germany’s special hotline for drivers needing safe stops or the military escort option. These protocols aim to prevent such incidents, and the investigation will probe why they were not followed.

This incident is not isolated. Authorities in Saxony-Anhalt have seen recent similar occurrences, with smaller quantities of ammunition missing. In August, Bernburg police reported 90 rounds gone, while Eisleben officers noted 180 rounds missing weeks earlier. No direct link between these incidents has been confirmed, though the pattern is concerning, reported the BBC.

Key Takeaways:

  • Roughly 20,000 rounds of ammunition were stolen from a German military shipment.
  • The defence ministry and police have begun an investigation, with no suspects yet identified.
  • Recent similar thefts in the region add to security concerns around military supplies.

🤣🤣🤣 live pistol ammunition is 'weapons grade supplies'.  Wow, whoever wrote this has a degree in stating the obvious.

Followed by - lack of arrests or identified suspects raises questions about how these weapons-grade supplies might be used.

🤔, let me guess.

Whoops, looks like the grand idea to outsource everything to save some money backfired (pun intended).  This shipment should've been overnighted at another military facility and the driver put up in the Mess.  Crazy lack of basic security and risk assessment & mitigation planning.

Roughly three tonnes of ammo missing in his load and he didn't notice during the drive.......not a lorry driver, but....???

Plus, three tonnes must have taken some shifting.

Someone may have known about the transport of the Special Cargo ,

Inside knowledge.

The driver knows “NOOOOOOOOOTHING”?

School shootings and mass killings to follow...

Heck there’s gun nuts here in the states that have ammo stashes that size.

10,000 rounds of what is likely 9mm is 200 boxes. Big deal.

I've been to gun shows in the US where guys buy a lot more than that, load it on a cart, and wheel it out to their F-150 pickup. At current prices, that's a couple thousand dollars worth of ammo. Guys who buy 5.56 NATO for their AR-15 buy a lot more than that. Heck you're a posseur, not a genuine "prepper" or "Sovereign Citizen", if you don't have at least 100,000 rounds......for EACH of your guns. Ammo caches are what your "guest bedroom" is for.

Perhaps the article listed the amount incorrectly, because that's just not a lot of ammo.....at least in 'Merika.

I'm thinking like some of the American comments.  I know people who keep that as their minimum supply.  Maybe not armor piercing but still highly capable rounds in the right hands.

I'm guessing their was something they want to keep quiet about also taken.
