Five Dead as Israeli Air Strikes Hit Tents Near Khan Younis

In a tragic escalation, Israeli air strikes have killed five Palestinians, including two children, in tents housing displaced people near Khan Younis, say medics at the Kuwait Field Hospital. The attack struck the coastal al-Mawasi area, causing additional injuries, with 32 people needing medical treatment. The strikes reportedly targeted locations housing people displaced by prior conflicts.

Prior to this incident, tensions were already high following an October 7 attack by Hamas on southern Israel, resulting in over 1,200 deaths and numerous hostages taken. In response, Israel commenced a military offensive, which has led to over 70,100 Palestinian deaths in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. Wednesday saw further tensions as Israel's Defence Forces reported injuries to five soldiers, attributing the blame to actions by the Hamas organisation.

Israeli officials justified the air strikes as a response to violations of a ceasefire agreement by Hamas, accusing the group of attacking IDF troops earlier that day. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had warned of appropriate responses following the breach. Witnesses reported panic among those sheltering nearby, with the initial strike hitting inside the al-Mawasi displacement area.

Hamas condemned the air strikes as barbaric and indiscriminate, arguing they breached the ceasefire initiated on October 10. The Israeli military, in their statement, expressed commitment to counteracting threats in response to the supposed advances by Hamas, reported the BBC.

Key Takeaways:

Five Palestinians, including two children, were killed in Gaza air strikes.

The strikes were a reported response to a previous Hamas attack on IDF troops.

The conflict has seen over 70,100 Palestinian deaths since early October.

‘An obscene attack on civilians’ would be a better description.

Sure with Hamas hiding among them as they always do.  Such heroes.  You must be a muslim or far gone.

Yes, the heroic IDF can do that! Long experienced in genocide, a few tents with civilians don't matter anymore.😢

The tents were, presumably, collateral damage.

They are totally immune to any repercussion for their genocidal actions  they will carry on till the last Palestinian is  eradicated

then wonder why the world hates them so.

Great fighters the IDF are. Attack from air with no air defence. WOW!

when it comes to man to man combat they can’t even progress a mile on land. Or beg USA to beg IRAN to stop the missile attacks.

Nonsense.

Even if it was it would be nothing in comparison to the October 7 atrocity by your friends in Hamas.

Maybe time to admit that day was a terrible mistake or are you still defending it ?

Two idiot arguments in one short post.

1. No evidence that Hamas were hiding amongst civilians, that the people targeted were Hamas or that the airstrike was proportionate to the alleged incident.

2. Ad hominem.

Yet more idiot arguments.

The obscenity of the October 7 attack does not in any way diminish that of this slaughter of civilians and children.

Then your ad hominem of a baseless accusation of Hamas being my friends.

I have never defended the heinous terrorist attack of October 7 and I have been consistent in my condemnation of that atrocity.

Do try harder Jonny, in your defense of Israel slaughtering civilians and children you’ve slipped into utterly irrational nonsense.

No.

Try this.

No evidence has been presented.

Now if you are making the argument that we can non of us know anything about events we did not personally witness them please do so.

Ripping such self exposed nonsense apart isn’t even necessary.

Dare  make a comment on the genocide and murder by Israel and you get accused of being antisemite. That's where common sense has gone.  After all it's more politically correct to slam Russia or Trump and do everything possible to carry on selling arms and giving trillions of dollars to Ukraine and feed the corruption.

No, I think it was an obscene killing of civilians, a non proportionate response to an incident in which no evidence of any Israelis being killed or injured has been presented.

I am constantly amazed at what kind of inhuman scum is hiding here at AN!

I certainly don't hide my support for Israel or the IDF on AN.  If that makes me "inhuman scum" in the eyes of Hamas supporters, I'll accept that designation with pride, considering the source.

*Sentence removed by Moderation*

Good job - the only way to negotiate with terrorists whose only aim is to kill all the people in your country, is to eradicate them in retaliation for any atrocities they commit.  Hamas has not stopped the fighting and is constantly violating the ceasefire agreement - that was why IDF bombed a Hamas target (and maybe his family).  I never believe any media report from the Palestinian Authority (the PR arm of Hamas).

Five IDF soldiers were wounded Wednesday afternoon, one of them seriously, in an attack by Palestinian terror operatives on troops stationed in southern Gaza’s Rafahd.  PM Benjamin Netanyahu said Hamas had violated the truce and vowed a response, saying: “Our policy is clear: Israel will not tolerate attacks on IDF soldiers and will respond accordingly.”  The IDF later said it had carried out an airstrike in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis targeting a Hamas operative in response. The military did not elaborate on the identity of the target.

Exactly. Damn the USA and the billionaire Israel lobby for allowing this to happen.

Miriam Adelson controls Trump, after giving him $400 million. Why is this Israeli American allowed to get what she wants, like the US embassy in Jerusalem and now the vetoing of all UN actions against Israel?

Of course, even Hamas must realise is was a reckless & terrible mistake. Nobody here is defending Hamas but the IDF are better-armed monsters. Killing homeless people in tents, including children?!? You must be a monster yourself to defend that.

A weak strawman.

Firstly I do not believe the story as it came from the lying antisemitic BBC.

Secondly, even if was true it is nothing in comparison to what happened on October 7.

Feel free to disagree with either of these statements but do not bother creating more hyperbolic statements to argue against positions that I do not hold.

You are sick if you think 38 dead children on Oct 7 is worse than 30,000 Gazan children killed by the terrorist state you support since that date.

Your islamophobia clouds your judgement

You probably believe there was mass rape, beheaded babies and all the other Israeli lies.

Next time the people of Gaza should think twice before starting a war with Israel.
