Europe  country with a Husband Drought Sparks Boom In Rent-A-Man Services

Women outnumber men — so badly — they’re hiring stand-in spouses for chores

Latvia — the Baltic nation famous for supermodels, fairy-tale skylines and a nightlife packed with glamorous women — is facing a crisis that no beauty filter can fix: a full-blown national man shortage.

And it’s so bad that Latvian women are now being forced into a new kind of relationship status:

Single. Independent. And hiring a husband by the hour.

A Eurostat report shows Latvia has 15.5% more women than men — more than triple the EU average. And among seniors, it’s a demographic apocalypse: twice as many women as men.  Translation: the dating pool is basically a puddle.

Festival worker Dania says her workplace is “98% women.”  Great for girl talk — catastrophic for flirting. “There’s nothing wrong with that,” she sighs, “but for good balance you’d want some more men.”  Her friend Zane says the solution is simple: leave Latvia. “All my friends have gone abroad and found boyfriends there.”

But for the women staying put?  Welcome to the booming industry of “husbands for hire.”  Platforms like Komanda24 and Remontdarbi.lv let Latvian women summon a “Man With Golden Hands” directly to their home — no small talk, no bad dates, no ghosting, just pure, unadulterated… plumbing and wall-fixing.

For a few euros, these temporary hubbies will paint your walls, fix your curtains, repair your pipes, or mount your TV, showing up within an hour like a slightly flirtier TaskRabbit — minus any emotional responsibility.  The reason behind Latvia’s man drought is grim but simple:
men die younger — much younger.
World Atlas reports Latvian men smoke three times as much as women and are more likely to be overweight. Lifestyle choices have consequences, and in Latvia’s dating scene, those consequences are visible everywhere.  And it’s not just Latvia.

In the UK, a mother of three went viral for creating “Rent My Handy Husband,” hiring out her real spouse James for DIY work at $44 an hour. He’s now booked out for weeks. Apparently, the husband rental market is global — and thriving.

For Latvia, though, the situation is more serious: a generation of women forced to import boyfriends, outsource husbands, and rely on golden-handed freelancers to do the domestic heavy lifting.

Beauty may be Latvia’s national export —but eligible men are now its rarest natural resource.
