On December 8, Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul held a critical security meeting in response to escalating tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border. Joined by top military and security officials, the gathering was prompted by recent clashes that resulted in one Thai soldier's death and four injuries. Immediate actions include implementing a rear-area protection plan to enhance public safety and support military operations.

The meeting at Government House involved high-ranking officials such as Defence Minister General Nattapon Nakpanich and Army Commander General Phana Khlaeoplotthuk. Tensions at the border have been rising, leading to increased military and police presence. Previous border disputes have occasionally flared, but the recent incidents mark a significant escalation, necessitating urgent intervention.

National Police Chief Pol General Kitrat Phanphet confirmed the enforcement of safety measures, including traffic management and bolstered patrols. Efforts are underway to evacuate remaining at-risk civilians. In Sa Kaeo province, police and crowd control units are on standby, poised to act on military instructions, while coordination continues under the Second Army Area’s jurisdiction.

Looking ahead, authorities will be monitoring the situation closely, with further strategies to be formulated based on the meeting's outcomes. Public safety remains a priority, with measures in place to prevent additional casualties. Detailed updates from military officials are expected to follow, shedding more light on the ongoing operations, reported The Nation.
