Putin enforcer gunned down

A notorious Putin enforcer tasked with hunting down and dragging back soldiers who deserted the Ukraine war has been gunned down in what appears to be a revenge execution.

Konstantin Ektov, 34, a feared military police officer, was accused of using electric shocks and savage beatings on runaway troops and even their families. His brutal tactics — and his own death at the hands of a deserter — expose the grim violence festering inside Russia’s military machine.

Ektov, a former convict with a long history of aggression, had been recruited specifically to intimidate and terrorise draft dodgers and their relatives, coercing them into returning to what many call Putin’s “cannon fodder” frontline.
