Coldplay Concert Video Leaves HR Executive Branded Unemployable

A Coldplay concert moment captured HR executive Kristin Cabot on camera hugging her boss, which spiralled into a viral sensation, leading to ongoing harassment and abuse. The clip, filmed in July, showed Ms Cabot and Andy Byron, CEO of Astronomer, swaying to music in Boston before hiding from the camera after Coldplay's Chris Martin joked about them. The duo became the subject of widespread online ridicule, resulting in both resigning and Ms Cabot struggling with public and personal backlash.

The concert moment went viral after Chris Martin's comment: "Either they're having an affair, or they're just very shy." This resulted in millions of views and intensive social media attention. Ms Cabot, 53, has since described her ongoing ordeal, stating she faces harassment and struggles to find employment, being labelled as “unemployable.” She was separated from her husband, who was also at the concert, and despite admitting to a “crush” on Mr Byron, she emphasised the platonic nature of their interaction, acknowledging a lapse in judgement.

Following the incident, Ms Cabot faced significant backlash. Her personal details were exposed, leading to threats and a flood of abusive messages, primarily from women. The situation strained her family life, with her children embarrassed and fearful. Despite therapists' help and regaining some normalcy, she noted, “It's not over for me, and it's not over for my kids.” Her children feared for their safety, and her image became fodder for media and social critique.

Ms Cabot and Mr Byron kept in touch briefly for crisis management before deciding to sever contact to facilitate healing. Mr Byron has not publicly commented since the incident, aside from distancing himself from a fake statement that included Coldplay lyrics. Astronomer formally accepted his resignation, affirming its commitment to accountability and values. The scandal serves as a clear example of the personal and professional ramifications of viral fame, reported the BBC.

Key Takeaways:

  • Kristin Cabot faced intense public scrutiny and threats after a viral concert video.
  • Both she and CEO Andy Byron resigned amidst media and personal challenges.
  • The incident highlights the lasting impact of viral moments on personal lives.

They were both married.

To other people.

It was just a cuddle in public.

Have you never had a cuddle with a woman that isn't your wife?

I seemed to manage it fairly often at the Xmas office parties.

I'd say the bigger crime is paying to see Coldplay.

Why are you asking us?

They themselves know, and it was their reaction, not the still, that caught them out.

Had they not tried to duck out of sight when they realized the camera was on them they would not have delivered the stuff that spreads like wild fire in the internet.

Agreed.

I normally consider myself quite a sensitive, forgiving type but some things are beyond the pale, listening to Coldplay except by accident being one of them.

Imo should have been off to the Tower and then off with their heads.

I actually feel sorry for them. Lives pretty much ruined for a silly mistake combined with incredibly bad luck.

I'm also extremely grateful that camera phones and social media were in their infancy when I was younger.

its the new Christian right morality police

Stupid moralistic hypocrisy from anyone who doesn't want to hire her because of this.  Pathetic.

When you're separated you're still married.

Agreed, but it makes the moral hypocrisy applied here even more hypocrite.

Is that a work related problem? Infidelity is almost the norm these days, why try pretending it doesn't happen.

This guy needs to get more creative.  Plenty of opportunity to become the "non-attorney" spokesperson for a big time divorce lawyer.

or a camera/phone company advertising those time you don't want your picture captured.

Could get a blue pill endorsement....maybe with some reference to cold play...

Don't get caught in public......instead Coldplay our online casino at ...777.com.
Road manager for a band.

Plenty of other opportunities....just have to Coldplay it right.

You’d think an HR boss knows something about office romances setting aside the married issue. I doubt if she ever gets hired as an HR person.

Shouldn't effect your employment.  Plain stupid.

I think it is very sad that they are being tried in the court of public opinion.  There are still to many goody two shoes who think they can do no wrong.  Give them back their life.

World is full of hypocrites and flogs. In Thailand you can sleep with anyone.

:hit-the-fan:

Who? What? Where? When? Why? I have never heard of these people, organisations, whatever. Nor do I care who did what to who or why, or the consequences thereof. It's not news, it's gossip, aka drivel.

Good god, it's not even Donald's fault!
