About 3 months ago, I received an email out of the blue from giffgaff warning me that, unless I used my giffgaff mobile number within the following month, they would disconnect it and reallocate it to a new giffgaff member. Several ways in which I could keep this number were suggested, including making a phone call and sending a text message. Accordingly, I made a quick call with my giffgaff SIM to my UK bank's automated banking service, hanging up immediately I got a response. This resulted in a further email from giffgaff, assuring me that my giffgaff number was safe and would stay mine. One thing I've started doing following these emails is to make quick phone calls to my UK bank's automated banking service every month, rather than every 6 months as previously. Whether this will prove sufficient so as to avoid any future similar threats of disconnection remains to be seen after barely 3 months, of course.
