Imbruglia's sex-change cousin fights Government

Natalie Imbruglia's transsexual cousin is taking on the (Australian) government over the gender on her passport before she travels for sex-change surgery in Thailand, a report said.

Stefanie Imbruglia, a first cousin of pop star Natalie, told The Sun-Herald that legislation enacted three months ago prevented her listing an "intended" sex on her passport.

As a result, when she travels to Thailand in October, she will be required either to travel on a passport naming her as a man, Stephen Imbruglia, or on a document of identity that would leave her genderless.

"It is completely outrageous," Imbruglia, 42, told the newspaper.

"I may fly out to Thailand with a penis, but I'm going to come back as a total woman with a vagina, so how am I going to get through immgration on a male passport?"

After two years living as Stefanie Imbruglia, she is to spend $20,000 on gender reassignment surgery in Phuket.

The architect, from Banksia in Sydney's south, said she would be "psychologically damaged" if she travelled on a male passport.

But the alternative document of identity would not offer her the same level of protection and could lead to strip searches and harassment, according to a letter she received from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Imbruglia also said her pop star cousin had been "very supportive" over her gender change.

does only one hit make her cousin a pop star?actually she wasn't half bad in johnny english.

But " Torn" was a great single.

And I did sit in the same row as her on a flight once

And she always looked good in thos blue overalls that she used to wear in neighbours....

:D Think I'd better get my coat now, just for admitting to watching that. :o

I like that song too. Nice video too.

ROFL - I am actually playing "Torn" as I type this - oops time for Harrys in Boat Quay!

He's been a man for 42 years and he/she will be permanently damaged by having a male's passport, but won't be damaged at all by having her penis cut off? I fail to see the damage. Or as Neil Young said, "The Needle and the Damage Done."

As a gay man I support everybody's right to change their gender. But Thais don't get to change their gender on their passport or ID, do they? Didn't a ThaiVisa poster have a laugh at the airport in California when the immigration officer questioned why she was (still) identified as a man?

Talk about nitpicking. Sounds like someone is trying to make a big issue out of something to draw attention to him/herself. Either way this person will arrive at a border with parts other than what's listed on the manifest. Would figure it would be easier to sort it out by doing it in your own country on the way back.

Perhaps he could just ask for his "equipment" to be given back to him in a jar as proof!!!!!!!!!! erkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk :o "excuse me madam anything to declare"

"she would be "psychologically damaged" if she travelled on a male passport"

uhhh.... Its just a passport.

If the architectress wants, she can take before and after photos to better explain to immigrations what she is carrying in her pants. Then, hopefully she can have a smile as the immigration officer tries to control themselves.

If she doesn't want the passport, she can stay home.

Omigod, a new twist to the old saying, "If you don't like it here, you can stay home!"

I can understand that one might want their passport and other documents changed to reflect that he was now a she POST SURGERY and AFTER returning to Oz but why does it need to be done before. He already dresses and lives as a woman so the passport photo will reflect how he looks now even if it lists him as a male. I have never had my penis checked at customs on departure and have never been asked to produce said penis by customs on return.

I think she/he should return to her country and apply to be a soldier with all the handsome guys that might make the government act a bit sooner.

Exactly chiliwasabi. I should imagine poor Natalia, bless her, is cringing with embarassment.

i would be more worried about the op than a stupid passport.................

Maybe coming out with new follow up single called"Cut".

i heard she was going to do some covers off of the album -nevermind the boll*cks,by the sex pistols, followed by another cover-the first cut is the deepest. :o

Another former Neighbours cast member propelled to pop stardom!

Torn isn't even Natalie Imbruglia's own song - the original was done by US band Ednaswap.

Talentless - just like all the other 'pop stars' that neighbours has produced.

Mark Riccuto isn't talentless

But " Torn" was a great single.

Only a cover, but I guess it has made her rich enough to afford the boob job.

For once i agree with the Emperor; talentless Aussie soap opera slapper makes good. Crap crap song as well.

Mind you, there is some good music comin' out of Aussie - take Pendulum for instance (e.g. tarantula)

Could she not come to Thailand on a 'male ' passport have the odd bit chopped off

go to the Oz embassy for inspection and get a "female" passport to fly out,

immigration here being perfectly capable of transferring data from one passport to the other.

We also have problems in the west keeping these whackos out of the ladies toilets in bars. They run to the press, turn up with lawyers and still call themselves women.

A man with his willy chopped off, is a man with his willy chopped off! He won't come back with a vagina, he will come back with a moulded hole, which, other than accomodating a penis, functions in no way like a vagina! We could maybe give ground here and classyfy them as Eunochs which is more accurate than "Woman".

Have woman on your passport when you start menstruating, conceive a child, lactate, develop a womb etc.

Until then, "you are a bloke dressed as a (f ugly) woman!

I think its a publicity stunt as well.

My my, haven't all you "studs" had fun bashing transgendered people. Most of you have no idea about the world of Tg's so keep your bigoted opinions to yourselves

Well, this is marginally Thailand related and obviously fodder for trolls and flamers.
