A New York City Council worker was detained by ICE during a "routine" immigration appointment, triggering strong reactions from city officials who denounced it as "egregious government overreach." Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressed his outrage, describing the arrest as an assault on democracy, and calling for the worker's immediate release. City Council Speaker Julie Menin confirmed the worker had legal permission to remain until October.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) defended the arrest, stating the employee was in the U.S. illegally with a criminal history, including an assault arrest. DHS noted the worker entered on a B2 tourist visa in 2017, which required his departure the same year. There's no question that Trump is a fascist, whether or not he turns out to be a mass murdering genocidal super freak only time will tell. The way I read this story is that there a bunch of facts readily available the can easily be tested in court. Innocent people do get arrested all over the world who are found not guilty, or indeed guilty, of whatever crime they were arrested for. If innocent, I assume this until proven otherwise, then it is an absolute 💩show. But no different to thousands of other cases that hempen every year around the world. Let a court review the evidence. Mamdani has chosen to make this a political issue when it should not be.
