Iran is preparing to hold live-fire military exercises in the Strait of Hormuz as tensions with Washington continue to escalate, according to reports. The drills come amid renewed pressure from the Trump administration over Tehran’s nuclear program and its violent crackdown on anti-regime protesters.

Details on the timing and precise location of the Iranian exercises have not been made public. It remains unclear whether they will overlap with US military drills in the region, which are also being kept deliberately vague by American officials.

The US Navy continues to reinforce its presence in the Middle East. The guided-missile destroyer USS Delbert D. Black arrived in the region on Thursday, bringing the total number of US warships believed to be operating there to around ten, based on ship-tracking data.

US officials say the military activity is designed to demonstrate Washington’s ability to respond quickly alongside regional allies if tensions with Iran boil over. The show of force also highlights America’s expanding security partnerships across the Gulf.

President Trump said on Wednesday that additional US military assets are already en route to the region. He reiterated his demand that Iran agree to negotiate a “fair and equitable deal” over its nuclear ambitions, warning that failure to do so would carry consequences.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes, with roughly a fifth of global oil supplies passing through it, making any military escalation there a major international concern.

  • Iran plans live-fire drills in the Strait of Hormuz as US-Iran tensions rise.
