Pheu Thai Urges EC to Explain Ballot Change

Featured Replies

Julapun Amornvivat, leader of the Pheu Thai Party, has called on the Election Commission (EC) to clarify its decision to change the ballot design in the re-election held in Khan Na Yao district, Bangkok, on 22 February. The ballot format differed from that used in the 8 February election, prompting questions over legality and consistency. He said it is the EC’s responsibility to explain the change to the public.

Speaking on Monday 23 February, at Pheu Thai Party headquarters, Julapun stated that altering the ballot format had raised concerns about whether the move complied with the Constitution. He stressed that it is not the role of the Pheu Thai Party to judge whether the action was lawful, as the party does not have the authority to make such determinations. Instead, he said, the EC must provide answers regarding transparency and fairness.

The re-election on 22 February followed the earlier poll on 8 February in the same district. The differing ballot designs have drawn scrutiny, particularly after the party had previously expressed concerns about barcodes printed on ballot papers. Julapun noted that the visible change in ballot design during the 22 February vote had intensified questions.

He said the Pheu Thai Party had already submitted its concerns to the EC through official channels and had also communicated the issue via the media. According to Julapun, the EC has a duty to ensure transparency, fairness and legality in the electoral process. He added that citizens who take time to vote are making a sacrifice, and therefore deserve clarity and confidence in the system.

When asked whether the party would file a complaint with relevant agencies, Julapun said no final decision had been made. He explained that the matter would first be discussed with the party’s legal team before determining any further action. The party has not yet concluded whether it will pursue a formal complaint.

Khoasod reported that Julapun emphasised that the party wants the country to move forward without disruption or disputes. He reiterated that clear explanations from the EC would help address doubts surrounding the ballot format change. The next step will depend on internal legal consultations and the EC’s response to the concerns raised.

There is no way he is going to raise major issues. Anything that might be detrimental to BJT or could cause his party to lose more seats is not in their favour.

PT must sit back and be quiet at least until the big leader gets out of jail.

The kettle and the pot story springs to mind ......... Pheu Thai requests "explanations"? Really?
