August 23, 200718 yr Trying to book a flight to SFO and Thai's website doesn't show such a flight. Have they discontinued this run while I wasn't looking. I only see LAX for the West Coast...what gives
August 23, 200718 yr Author Thanks but I already know what my other options are...just wondering where the BKK-SFO flight disappeared to. Never heard/read they were discontinuing this flight
August 23, 200718 yr If THAI has ever operated a flight out of SFO, it hasn't been doing so since I first came to Thailand in 1993.
August 23, 200718 yr If THAI has ever operated a flight out of SFO, it hasn't been doing so since I first came to Thailand in 1993. I was thinking the same - LAX for west coast, JFK for east coast.

Correct. JFK is actually a fairly recent addition. THAI didn't start flying Bangkok to New York until they added the nonstop flight a few years back. THAI has been flying to LAX at least since 1993 but it hasn't always been a daily service and as with the JFK non-stop, the LAX non-stop flight is a relatively recent addition. For what it's worth, both the BKK-LAX and BKK-JFK non-stop flights are supposedly money losers and THAI has made some noises about possibly discontinuing them.
August 23, 200718 yr Lets hope not, first time with TG for nonstop in Nov out of JFK. I hope it works out for your sake but you really never know with THAI. I recall when they unceremoniously canceled their BKK to Amsterdam service a while back with no real notice. My impression is that THAI really wants to offer service to the US but they've never been able to make money doing so. TG has been complaining about the profitability of their US routes (LAX for the most part) for as long as I can remember. Singapore Airlines seems to be able to make their similar Los Angeles-Singapore and New York-Singapore non-stops work for them, but then again SQ is charging a premium over their connecting service fare to fly on the non-stop planes (about 50% higher fare). THAI wasn't doing that, or at least they weren't charging a premium fare the last time I looked.
August 23, 200718 yr Yes - I heard the gripes about LAX, but certainly no grumbles about JFK yet. Guess time will tell.
August 23, 200718 yr Author I remember seeing Thai jet at SFO when I would spend some time plane-spotting there in the late 1990's...so there were flights then. In any event, I just booked on EVA
August 23, 200718 yr For what it's worth, I just looked at Expedia, one can buy a ticket with all THAI flight numbers on the SFO to BKK route, but the flight from/to San Francisco will be a code-share and actually operated by another Star Alliance carrier (United or All Nippon). The only actual TG flight on such a routing would be the Narita to Bangkok (and v.v.) leg.
August 24, 200718 yr If this helps, the U.S. Air Force flies out of Travis Air Force base, located just outside of San Francisco, but it's not a direct flight to Bangkok. You have to go through Yokota Air Force base in Japan.
