Parkroyal Hotels eyes expansion in Asia

Singapore based Parkroyal Hotels and Resorts has announced a series of acquisitions to expand its portfolio in Asia, with plans also to include the opening of a sales office in Australia to look after the group’s growth in the Asia-Pacific region.

Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, Christina Chua made the announcement during a product update to over 50 agents and key travel industry partners in Sydney earlier this week.

To coincide with the expansion, the group has completed extensive renovations to a number of properties spending more than A$61.5 million over the past five years to introduce its new ‘lifestyle’ concept to city hotels in Singapore and Malaysia

“Australia is our group’s largest feeder market,” Ms Chua said.

“The group acquired the brand in 2002, and after having spent many hours to upgrade the product, Parkroyal is no strange name to this market.

“We threw our hotels into massive renovations to take the hotels where we want it.”

The group plans to re-brand and open hotels in Ho Chi Minh City by December, Phang-na, Thailand in January 2008 and has recently acquired a property in Yangon, Myanmar.

Negotiations are currently underway for management contracts in Thailand, Hong Kong and Vietnam.

Ms Chua did not rule out opening or managing a hotel in Australia if it made “financial sense”.
