Pentagon Seeks $200 Billion to Fund Iran War

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

The Pentagon has asked for $200 billion in funding for the war in Iran, according to a military official and an administration official, a significant sum adding to the costs of an already divisive campaign.

The request has been sent to the White House, the military official said, which will review it before any request for funds is formally submitted to Congress. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the proposal. The request was reported earlier by The Washington Post.

I didn't see any mention of any increase in taxes to pay for it.

Or maybe instead of posting a lame deflection, you start your own thread about what members of aseancom.com are doing to oppose the war.

Instead of All the efforts you guys are putting into your circle session, why dont you take the time to write to your Congressman demanding he stop funding this evil war,

Feel free to post the letters you (say you will) send to your Congressman and Senator

Someone else? So the war is over? Come to think of it, you started claiming that almost as soon as it started.

Not at all, reading the pathetic Trump deranged lamentations from Americas powerless enemies and their net sock puppets is the source of great amusement with me.

Hey watch this: Do you think Iran was a threat to the USA?

The war was declared won on the first day. That is why it is significant - the government is asking for more money for a war that is already over (according to them). The national debt is spiraling out of control.

While people can say they will simply print more money, the risk to the economy is high. Prices are up and the mid terms are coming. And no, no one has forgotten the Epstein files.

Trump's new slogan ought to be: "Promises made, promises broken"

Not that MAGAs have any sort of conviction---well, the "convicted" ones get a pardon if they make a donation or try to overthrow democracy and beat police on Trump's behalf---but it is amusing how they abandon everything they claimed to believe in when their messiah just breaks yet another promise or guarantee. MAGAs flip flop like a Mexican Jumping Bean, no doubt an illegal one at that.

Let's go to the videotape.........

"No world's policeman!" (Whoops! Siren's blaring.)

"No foreign wars!" (Maybe Trump will declare Iran the 51st State, so technically it will no longer be foreign?)

"No forever wars!" ($200,000,000,000 kind of sounds like a down payment on forever)

"America First!" (Is Second close enough for government work?)

"I'll bring back affordability!" (Inflation is up since Trump 2.0, even before he started the war that has sent energy prices soaring)

"I will erase the deficit!"---from a 2016 promise (He's presided over a $10,400,000,000,000 increase in the debt, counting term #1)

"America will be respected again (sic)" (Everybody hates the US now, except maybe the gas station chief Putin)

"America was dead as a doornail under Biden, and now the hottest country in the world" (4th Q 2024 GDP +2.8%, 4th Q 2025 GDP .7%...can a doornail be 'deader'?)

"Only I can do it!" (Depends on what he means by 'do it'. If crash the world economy and make the US a pariah and/or a laughing stock, many people are saying nobody does it better than Trump)

The Trump administration claimed Iran was an imminent threat. If you have to lie your way into a war, maybe it wasn't justifiable in the first place.

If you substituted Iraq for Iran, this would be exactly the kind of comment that was used to justify the Iraq war.

I used to think that too, but it appears things are not that simple.

Just because they don't reveal the real reason they started a war does not (necessarily) mean the war is not justified.

Maybe some things Trump cannot say to the general public because it would undermine national security, for one thing. You don't want to be revealing all your cards to enemies who want you dead ....

You do some of the heavy lifting. Try to come up with a coupla 2-3 reasons they may not state everything explicitly to the public.

Anyway, no matter what Trump says or does, 50% of the US population wants him dead. People wanted him dead before he started the war, so why does he have to explain everything to you? You will still find reasons to hate him and try to get him impeached.

I don't know if this is true, but Saddam was put there by the US/UK ??

And then later when his "useful idiot" role was done, they decided to remove him?

Crazy insane stuff this mad mad world of geopolitics.

If the CIA wants to put you in power, run for your life !!

https://archive.globalpolicy.org/iraq-conflict-the-historical-background-/us-and-british-support-for-huss-regime.html

US intelligence helped Saddam's Ba`ath Party seize power for the first time in 1963. Evidence suggests that Saddam was on the CIA payroll as early as 1959, when he participated in a failed assassination attempt against Iraqi strongman Abd al-Karim Qassem. In the 1980s, the US and Britain backed Saddam in the war against Iran, giving Iraq arms, money, satellite intelligence, and even chemical & bio-weapon precursors.

No doubt it will be funded from the vast revenue to come from the tariffs...

‘Forever wars’!

And nobody twisted your arm to admit it.

Yeah, but even though Trump started this war, I'm still not convinced that he is on board with the "forever wars" .... I don't think Trump has the same mentality as the Neo-Cons.

I will still leave some room for doubt that he is trying to extricate the US from that system .... but maybe he has to tie up loose ends first.

Well, wouldn't you expect that the intel community would know 'some things'?

The intel community's assessment was that Iran posed no "imminent" threat. This was restated---not just by DNI Gabbard in her written (but not oral opening remarks, as she claims she took it out "to save time")---but by resigned head of NCTC ChIef Joe Kent, who appeared yesterday in a Tucker Carlson interview saying there was no intelligence suggesting Iran had any plan to attack the US or any US ME bases.

Nobody is hiding anything to protect "sources and methods". It was and is a war of choice.

I guess we have to fall back on Trump's"hunches". Or maybe his friend John told him? Most likely Rubio had it right on Day 1, that Israel dragged the US and Trump into it. Trump is so easy to manipulate, even Kim Jong-un could do it. As for Bibi, I wouldn't be surprised if he reminded Trump that Bush II's approval rating popped to 80% after he invaded Iraq. Trump is all about two things only (for those who haven't yet caught on): the greater glory of Trump, and the greater wealth of Trump.
