Changing payment of UK state pension to Wise to a Thai bank possibly.

Featured Replies

Given the much discussed upcoming changes to Wise and the vague requirement for uploading verification documents which may be difficult to comply with I wonder has anyone experience of changing their UK state pension payment from Wise to a Thai bank?Is a simple phone call to the International pension centre to provide new details generally enough or do they require you to write to them or provide a bank mandate form? Thanks.

They ask security questions to verify that you are who you say you are.

Pretty shoddy security if they change bank accounts just over the phone

I can't say for certain but you may be ok with just a phone call. When my missis qualified for her pension in 2024 she tried to set it up by phone but got a bit confused when they started asking the verification questions, so we ended up applying by post. We just put her SCB details on the form, and I don't recall having to supply any documentary confirmation of the account. It eventually all went through ok.

Thanks when I first claimed my pension in 2022 I did it by phone no problem so I think that should be sufficient but you never know and there is so much contradictory info. on the internet.Hopefully the Wise verification process won't be too onerous and it won't matter.

😁 Indeed. Just need some data and reroute 🤣

Can't help with UK but for German state pension there is of course a proper download form to fill, sign and send in. Already checked it and it seems sufficient if Thai bank account is in your sole name.

I remember some posts that pensioners had to provide a letter from the Thai bank about their account (in their name only).

That might be a PITA task.

I think this is the form to complete and send to the IPC to change your pension payment details

Thanks hopefully won't need it!

And of course for you naughty boys who's Pension goes into a UK bank, then you transfer to Wise, then Thai bank. If you get it direct to Thai bank....................

I watch quite a few cop movies/series, and see senior Officers calling someone, saying who they are, and then giving sensitive information.

How would the Geordie lady at the International Pension Centre know who the eff is calling?

They ask security questions to verify that you are who you say you are.

Indeed, such as employment record or any benefit claims, previous addresses, that sort of thing.

Changing your pension to Wise is best done by calling IPC, connect with change of circumstances.
Once you have answered their security questions they will ask for your bank details.
Easy and fast.

And what is your point with that statement?

What an (non) erudite response!

I suggest that if you cannot give a simple explanation to a basic request for clarification to a post of yours that it is better for you to hide your ignorance by not responding in the first place!

OK, I stopped short in my post about anyone wanting to have their UK State Pension paid into a Thai bank.

So?

What point, if any, are you trying to make?

Don't worry, a form is required.

Thinks change so it is worth checking....for something like a change of bank account I find it hard to believe they would do it just on the strength of a phone call.

I am a fanboy of WISE but they tested my patience this week.

They did a great job in blocking an attempted fraudulent transfer but then I had 3 days of limbo - and a cycle of them 'temporarily freezing' my account and cancelling my transfers. They suggested that the account was then 'clear' after their due diligence but the same thing happened every time I tried to make the transfer again. It was like Groundhog Day. Extremely frustrating and the support function, whilst helpful, had no power and there seemed to be a disconnect between customer service and the compliance/security team.

Everything was finally cleared up this morning.

I still love WISE but these Shenanigans caused me to try out REVOLUT and this mistress is now a threat to my long-term relationship with WISE.

I also need to apologise to the poster who suffered similar frustrations earlier this year and I was critical of his lack of patience while WISE 'did their job'. I now have greater empathy with him but patience is required, if you encounter a situation like this, because it seems to take forever to resolve.

Still a fan.........just not so smitten as I was.

I guess my message is; if you want to use WISE they are very good until there is an issue and then patience is required whilst they do what they have do. That bit, I think, they can do better. It is worth being patient (albeit frustrating) because they do the normal things very well - and they were diligent in blocking the fraud attempt. BUT, like so many things - banking in your home country, banking in Thailand and money transfers - have at least one alternative available. I shall now familiarise myself with REVOLUT and MONZO and I may no longer keep balances with WISE because I don't want to be denied access to those funds.

Anyone know if bank details can be changed by email? I have 2 addresses for them on file - [email protected] OR [email protected]

...they ask for your National Insurance number, UK address, date of birth, etc., to verify you.

I said this last week. Revolut is no good if you need to show the transfer to Thailand as an International Transfer without a load of Credit Advice hassle.

WISE, if you have told them to tag the receiving account, and tick Long Term Stay or buying a property, it will be marked as FTT, Foreign Telegraphic Transfer, which my IO is fine with.
