Canadian Man Allegedly Skips Bike Repair Bill, Steals 20,000 Baht

The old Thai 'you've damaged the bike, and it needs repairs that are 3x it's value' scam. At least the guy got his deposit back.

I knew a guy in CM that owned a m/c rental shop, he used to boast that he made far more in repairs, then he did in rentals to foreigners. He had a guy on staff that just sprayed over scratched panels that cost almost nothing.

I live on Jomtien Second Road, AKA, BIRA-2 Racing Circuit. Day and night, 24/7, rented "big bikes" scream up and down the roadway, weaving in and out of traffic, blowing through red pedestrian signals and last week, killing a man crossing 2nd road. I can easily believe considerable damage done to the bikes as the hot shot riders rev beyond red-line limits, grind gears and generally abuse the bikes. They frequently modify rented bikes to make them louder and backfire on command. !00,000 Baht +++ damage does not seem at all unlikely nor unreasonable to me.

Limiting motorcycle/motorbike rentals to 125cc for riders without valid Thai motorcycle licenses would just make so much sense on so many levels. I guess perhaps that's the problem; it makes too much sense.

He has a Canadian passport and entered Thailand on that passport. So he is Canadian whether your biased thoughts like it or not. Just the way it is.

I feel the same with regards to the Canadian's comments. I'm not a racist EXCEPT when it comes to ISIS and Gazza terrorists and being terrorist Muslims with a name that usually starts with." Mohamed". On top of that have an Australian passport. Australian my a..ss. They all belong in the Guantanamo Bay detention camp. These people are screwing up my country.

Nice Canadian name lol

Another imported trouble maker no doubt

Canada is welcome to them

Allegedly Canadian, eh? Certainly not a lumberjack though.

Is lumberjack a reserved occupation?

And somehow you know exactly what the damages were without being there or even seeing a picture? If repairs were so cheap I would bet the renter could have taken it to be repaired himself and end of story. No shortage of bike repair shops. Stealing 20 k baht is not a great way to settle a dispute. Crap like this is why more and more bike shops want a passport to hold onto just in case.

Who in their right mind would give their original passport to a motorbike rental company?

They usually ask for a copy of the passport, which is fair enough!

Canadians are not the most prolific bad tourists.

You don't hear about them too often.

But that's precisely why the locals keep their guard down with them.

True, but they usually don't go by names such as Ibrahim Laamiri. He might have a Canadian passport, but nothing else that would qualify him as a true Canadian.

"Canadian"

Yeah, we've had this discussion before.

Some people might consider it "politically incorrect".

Ahh Ibrahim, such a Canadian name...

Regardless: sounds like the shop tried the "motorcycle damaged" scam and failed. Why they would keep 20k on the counter is another question, but if the guy got his deposit that is fine - unless the motorcycle was actually damaged - which is doubtful.

Just limit rentals to a valid license, period, would eliminate 90% of rentals and 100% of trouble. It's actually insane that shops don't require a license to rent one.

Typical Canuck with a name like that ! :-)

Don't think a video of him taking his deposit back counts as stealing.

It does when you’ve done damage to the bike. 🤷🏼

Whatever you may preach, modern-day Canada is a Western country built on a Western culture and adhering to Western values. This individual, even with Canadian papers, remains and will remain, along with his descendants, a North African Muslim. He and his offspring will never adapt to our culture, customs, and values. This applies to all Western countries facing this type of immigration.

If someone has citizenship then technically they are Canadian.

However, if they haven't been in the country long, they are carrying their own country's "culture" more than Canadian culture.

Every population has 5% of people who behave badly, so it makes no difference where he is from.

Except countries need to monitor if a certain recent immigrant group is involved with a disproportionately high level of crime and then adjust the immigration policies accordingly. Thailand doesn't give out citizenship easily because if you behave badly, they can kick you out.

Ah yes, like Minnesota and its Somali immigrant "community" who have soaked the American taxpayer for millions of fraudulent dollars (so far with no one going to jail over the fraud).

Big presence for this guy on the net. Google him. Runs a roofing company in Vancouver. I hope this destroys his business.
