Well on the one hand you have the Isaan based industry behind the Pattaya Flying Club fronted by its lovely air hostesses and their behind the scenes technical staff with their helping hands. It's an essential part of the region's GDP.

And on the other, the place attracts an over proportional number of delusional people already on the run from their lives, with failed backgrounds, low problem solving skills and serious psychosocial issues. Some of them are on course for perdition the moment they board the plane back home. The lucky ones return home penniless.

I suppose a minority get caught up in the merry go round without realizing it till it's too late - quite understandable considering some of the bait.

My niece who is very intelligent and is a professor at a university has an annual membership to DisneyWorld, and she and her husband spend thousands of dollars a year on their membership. They go there a few times a month for special events, it truly boggles my mind.

The last time I was in Florida with my wife thank God they came to the rescue and offered to take her to see the place I was saved by the bell.

I know we're all different that's what makes this world go round, but the only conditions upon which I would visit DisneyWorld is if they closed the park for the entire day, the manager of the park met us at the gate after we were flown there by helicopter landing in the parking lot, we were escorted onto each ride without a line, given free food and $10,000 cash just for the hell of it. I guess you can see it's just not my thing never really been into amusement parks nor amusement park (Marvel junk) movies.

Nothing wrong with amusements parks. They can be fun. What I guess that you really object to(or at least I would), is the ridiculous cost and over commercialisation.

I would go to have fun, rather than gouged and surrounded by a raft of people whose sole purpose is to separate me from my money.

Though of course, all somewhat off-topic.

Who are you to decide if an adult would be better off not dead. I know of many that have been miserable for 40 years and wonder why they don't end it all. What is the point. What type of fool lives a pathetic life when they have options. I hope this jumper is in a better place.

Well certainly the fact that they're grossly overpriced is a turnoff but in addition to that it's the huge crowds and the lines and just the fact that it's all just a bit much. I had tolerance for those kind of crowds when I was younger, and back then the gouging and the corporate piracy was a lot more tame than it is these days, it's completely unbridled in 2026.

Sometimes it must be obvious, this case may be an example. The protocol for jumpers is to choose a high floor, over 4 from memory, higher the better.

morbid i know, in Glasgow a guy who tried to commit suicide by lying on the train track instead lost both arms and legs, if you're going to do it, do it properly

An audit, taking into consideration the health and age of the jumpers, would probably conclude that there are no more old-age expats committing suicide in Pattaya than anywhere else. The media sensationalizes each suicide here, giving the impression it's more frequent than in any other place.

"Engineering" buildings would only prevent people from jumping, but there are lots of ways to commit suicide, and people intent on ending their lives will find an alternative method. They aren't slowing down the suicide rate in Vegas, but cutting down on the cleaning up of splattered corpses on the ground and making it safer for pedestrians. It's also a horrific sight to witness by passersby and not good for business. Vegas is a special case because people who lose all their money gambling are more likely to take the convenient flight over the side of a building if there is an available balcony.

Condos without balconies would not be easy to sell. High-rise hotels don't usually have them. There's a difference.

Regarding alternative methods of suicide. I was reading the messages of a person on a suicide forum about a year ago. In real time. In a thread, he mentioned he was going to do it today and where he would do it. In this case, it was jumping off a bridge somewhere in Canada. He went there, but discovered nets under the bridge designed to catch jumpers. Not to worry, he proceeded to the nearest railway station and jumped in front of a train. I know it was true as the rail company reported a closure around the time he was messaging about his intent.

If people want to end it, they will find a way.

This is unfortunate a dark reality of Cannabis nowadays, specially these strains with high THC contents that can trigger an outbreak of psychosis in some people who are already in a borderline state.

Does it not make sense though ? The highs are high in a place like Pattaya and some ppl with broken lives run out of money and don't want to face reality by going home anymore. Add some alcohol abuse and some mental illness and this is what you get

However, if I consider my life in Pattaya, it has been a dream. Life has to end at some point, so might as well be while dreaming. Skydiving is probably the best option for many.
