Six Killed in Battambang Benz Crash

Police in Battambang are still hunting the driver of a luxury car that killed six people, including an unborn child, in a late‑night crash last week. A seven‑year‑old child remains seriously injured.

The collision occurred on March 27 in Korkoh village, Moung Russei district, when a 2020 Mercedes‑Benz AMG GT53 struck two motorcycles returning from a concert. The driver fled, abandoning the vehicle at the scene.

Investigators traced the car to 19‑year‑old Seiv Cheyseth of Phnom Penh, son of a senior police official. His father confirmed the car belonged to his son and that he had driven to Battambang that day. Police are now working to establish whether Cheyseth was behind the wheel at the time of the crash.

The case has ignited public anger, with many Cambodians pointing to a culture of impunity that allows the wealthy and well‑connected to evade justice. Prime Minister Hun Manet has intervened directly, ordering a thorough investigation and insisting that “the individual who drove the vehicle and caused the deaths must be found and held accountable.”

The Ministry of Justice has assigned a volunteer lawyer to support the victims’ families, while police continue to gather evidence, including roadside CCTV footage. Authorities have appealed to the public for information on the suspect’s whereabouts, though his family claim they do not know where he is.

For the families of the six victims, the pursuit of justice is now a test of whether Cambodia’s legal system can deliver accountability in a case that has shaken public confidence.

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

“the individual who drove the vehicle and caused the deaths must be found and held accountable.”

Cue roadsweeper or other poor man to be hauled in front of cameras, say he was driving, family paid off.

Also any questions about how a policeman's son can afford such a car?

Shockingly unfair for the victims

Nice car, personally I would have bought the GT63.

Anyway, a good profession being a senior police official in Cambodia.

I hope nobody is suggesting that this car was paid for by the fruits of corrupt behaviour.
