New Law Dictates Death Penalty for Palestinians, Not Israelis

Featured Replies

Israel's parliament has approved a law that would make the death penalty the default sentence for Palestinians convicted of deadly terror attacks...

The bill stipulates that Palestinians convicted in Israeli military courts of carrying out deadly attacks deemed to be "acts of terrorism" would be executed by hanging within 90 days, with a possible postponement of up to 180 days.

In theory, Jewish Israelis could also be executed under the law - but in practice this almost certainly would not happen, as the death penalty could only be carried out where the intention of the attack was to "negate the existence of the state of Israel".

Palestinians convicted of lethal attacks face death penal...

The new law, passed on Monday, was pushed hard by the far-right and Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

So, Israelis who murder Palestinians on the West Bank in order to negate their right to an independent country get an exemption from the hangman services.

And if a Palestinian pleads he didn't kill an Israeli to negate the existence of Israel, but rather just because he's a rabid anti-semite, will that get him a pass?

Death sentence for premeditated murder, how can anyone be against that 🙄

It's not about the death sentence per se, it's about the fact that, according to the OP, it will be applied selectively to only one group of people, based on their ethnicity.

Actually, based on their motive. But it's highly unlikely that any Jewish Israeli person would have the requisite motive.

Someone actually read it, well done.

That's why I said, "according to the OP," since it clearly stated exactly what you've just said.

And once again, another thread that relies on third party commentary. How about posting the wording of the law and then people can read it and make their own conclusions? Can't people read and decide for themselves?

Not mentioned is that the law is specific to non residents and non citizens, i.e non Israelis. 21% of the israeli population - 2 million+, is Arab and they are treated equally to any other Israeli which means that they are not tried in military courts.

Also not mentioned is that the law is subject to revision by parliament -knesset and can be challenged in the Israeli court system. I will not be surprised if the law is deemed unconstitutional and blocked. Human rights ngos, religious groups and the defense counsel bar are all lined up against the law. From what I have read of the law (in english since I don't read hebrew), it does not appear to be well written, let alone thought out.

The terrorists need to be killed .

That will stop hostages being taken and swapping terrorists for innocent civilians .

Killing the Palestinians will stop hostage taking
