A TikToker with over a million followers has been fined for riding a jet ski through a public swimming area at Nha Trang beach, violating a long-standing ban. Khanh Hoa provincial police fined the 33-year-old Dak Lak Province resident VND5 million (US$190) on March 29 for using an unregistered watercraft without a license. The incident highlights the enforcement of regulations prohibiting such activities in public swimming zones.

The TikToker, identified through his account "Bap Kimochi," filmed himself speeding through the water late at night on March 27, posting the 54-second video, which garnered over 500,000 views. He later removed the clip and issued a public apology. He claimed no signs were visible that prohibited jet skis and reported seeing an empty beach, prompting him to ride four laps to test the engine.

Dam Hai Van, Director of the Nha Trang Bay Management Board, confirmed the ban on jet skis and parasailing at public beaches in Nha Trang for over a decade. These activities are permitted only in specific zones at licensed tourist areas. The TikToker admitted his jet ski was unregistered and confirmed lacking necessary operator certification.

Nha Trang, a popular tourist spot in Vietnam, has experienced a string of drowning incidents recently, prompting authorities to reinforce safety warnings amid rough conditions. Vietnamese law mandates that recreational jet ski use requires a business license, along with safety inspection certificates and registration. Operators must stay within designated areas and possess professional certifications, with strict prohibitions against using jet skis in restricted or conservation zones.
