Nikon Digital Camera repair

Featured Replies

I have a Nikon P5100 that screen flickers, and pictures come out with pink/purple haze - has a new battery, no affect, took it to Big Camera in Central, but they said they can’t fix it. Even said they would have to send it to Japan. Yeah, I know, it's an old Camera, about 10 years old, but I like it, and have several lenses for it - any ideas where to take it in Pattaya?? Thanx in advance

I doubt you'd find a shop in Pattaya that has the replacement parts to repair a consumer-grade camera that was first introduced almost twenty years ago.

You could contact Nikon Thailand, but you'll probably get the same response you got from Big Camera: nst.support(@)nikon.com.

Camera technology has improved so much since 2007 that a newer, more modern camera would probably be a good option. It may be cheaper, too.

You might have had it for 10 yrs, but it's 18 yr old tech, released in 2007.

Nikon is on their way out. I'd sell the lenses, ASAP, and maybe move over to Sony if still interested in the hobby. Sony fan myself, and you might want to peek at ...

I have the same camera......shutter is sticking......a common fault with age apparently (the camera's, not mine).

I gave up trying to get that repaired......decided to right it off and just use my iPhone 15 Pro max.....which I dropped twice in one day, and now has vertical black lines on all the photos I take.......

Only camera repair place I would trust is the one near Saphan Taksin in Bangkok, AV Camera. They did some work for me before and are honest about what they can fix and not

Who would repair a 10 years old camera. All the great new cameras around now to upgrade.

There are still a few independent Nikon repair stalls in Mega Plaza, the old mall in Bangkok's Chinatown. 4th floor. Very close to the SAM YOT MRT station.

Official Nikon service refused to repair my D5100 and that was 6 years ago.

Thanx KhunLa - I just bought my 16 yo daughter a Sony ZV E10, which can be fitted with other lenses. I have always been Nikon or Olympus, even back in the film days, (still have a Nikon D7000 but playing with this ZV E10 I am impressed…..makes good video, and pictures. Oh, and I did get the same answer on my old Nikon from Big Camera, and a couple repair shops in Tucom Pattaya - turns out it is the sensor, which has reached its end of life - still takes pictures, but background has a pinkish hue - I’ll give it to our 10 year old to teach her photography. Cheers

Oh, forgot - Beautiful pictures in the link…….👍

When a camera breaks, the price quoted for the fix is usually comparable to buying a new one. So, I would just look for a working secondhand one or move on to a new camera.

I have a 50 year old Contax with Zeiss lenses. Camera not working but I love to pick it up, same as my first ever camera, a Pentax from the 'swinging sixties'. They're lovely to hold, bring back good memories and the Zeiss lenses still work (manually) on my Canon.

A trip to Central World in Bangkok and you will fine some of the best fitted camera shops in the mall. But as usual, the price to repair could....could cost almost the price of a new unit.

This happened to me back in 2019 when I was shooting here. I had to send t to Singapore to be fixed. Waited three weeks. In the interim I replaced it with an entirely new Sony kit and sold everything Nikon when I got it back. The fix for a stuck shutter back then was something like 15k

Well checking on internet, you see Nikon closed in Japan and moved to Thailand !

To reduce costs, they moved to Thailand.

10 years old, is very old. I can understand your feelings, however you want to make pics.

SO say goodbye. Maybe a shop having a commercial and you can trade in?

You could use maybe the older lenses, but be aware of fitting. Not every lens fits right, the thread.

You buy Nikon again, probably fits. You can ask in shops (bigger ones) if they do have trade in options and ask about using older lenses on newer cam. Maybe you can.

Big Cam is the shop to go, I see. But repair? Wouldnt go for that.

When I changed from analog to digital, I still kept my analog for long time, Canon T70.

But it was worthless, didnt use it anymore. Should have traded it in, but didnt. Feelings.

It ended up all apart, as i opened up the cam to see what and how it was inside.

Amazing to see and very complex !

My first digital was a Sony DSCF828, later gave it away and bought a Canon again. I believe 1100D

After some years I traded it in on a commercial to a newer one 77D. I wasnt sure about working cam and pics. of the older one. That "new one" is now still with me, but also aged. Probably now also about 10 years. Maybe I should change again? Fact is, cams get less populair.

My Sony tv has a tiny red line, not repairable. I could buy and trade in to another tv.

The Sony deal, contacted Sony) wasnt quite right for me, it costed me too much. So still have the tv and I hardly notice red line. Thats already many years now.

Nice NC headset from Philips, broke down, called them, but cant repair.

Nowadays repair ? No, it is use till it break and then renew. Then they all are talking about durable, yheah right.

Red about a Kia car, cup of water spilt on floor ! Damage in electronics and it costed a lot to fix.

Really a cup of water?! You cant even come from rain in your car !? Incredible.

Same with batteries, electric car, if you want to change them at one point. Half the price of car !

In that case it was a Tesla.

Ok we are waiting on solar flare of sun and then all electronics is broken, then we are in real deep <deleted>.

Rather than repair, since Nikon introduced their Z mount full frame mirrorless cameras and lenses, with their eye-watering prices, I've seen the value in buying their older full frame DSLR's - D700, Df & D810 & D series F mount lenses. Absolute bargains in today's used market in terms of price, quality and output. Just a case of looking for low shutter count, clean sensor, and good overall external condition Mega Plaza in Bangkok is always worth a visit if you know what you are looking for.
