Pentagon prepares Cuba strike as Trump hints move

The Pentagon is quietly ramping up plans for a potential military operation in Cuba, even as the war with Iran continues to dominate US strategy. Officials are drawing up contingency options in case Donald Trump orders intervention, fuelling fears of a fresh flashpoint in the Caribbean. The move signals a possible widening of US military focus at a moment of already high global tension.

White House Directive Triggers Planning Push

According to multiple reports, defence officials have been instructed to accelerate preparations for possible action against Cuba. Sources say the planning remains precautionary, but reflects growing pressure from Washington on the communist-run island.

The Pentagon has refused to comment directly, stressing it routinely prepares for a range of scenarios. US Southern Command — responsible for the region — has publicly downplayed any knowledge of active plans, highlighting earlier testimony denying a takeover is being rehearsed.

Trump Fuels Speculation with Open Threats

The backdrop is a series of increasingly blunt remarks from Trump himself. He has openly suggested the US could “take” Cuba and recently hinted it might be next after Iran. In one comment, he said the US “may stop by Cuba” once the current conflict winds down.

The rhetoric is not new, but it is escalating. Trump has already authorised military operations across multiple countries in his second term, raising concerns that Cuba could become the next target.

Pressure Campaign Tightens on Havana

Alongside the military planning, Washington has intensified economic pressure on the island. Sanctions, tariffs and restrictions on oil shipments have deepened Cuba’s energy crisis, contributing to blackouts and shortages.

The White House argues the measures are necessary to counter threats posed by the Cuban government. Critics warn they are worsening conditions for ordinary citizens while increasing the risk of confrontation.

Cuba Vows to Fight Back

Havana has responded with defiance. Miguel Díaz-Canel has insisted the country will not bow to US pressure, declaring it is ready to defend its sovereignty at all costs. He has warned any conflict would lead to “fighting” and “struggle”.

The standoff is hardening positions on both sides. With tensions rising and military planning under way, the risk of escalation is no longer theoretical.

New Front Risk as Iran War Drags On

The timing is critical. With the Iran conflict unresolved, a pivot towards Cuba would stretch US military and diplomatic resources further. It also raises the prospect of overlapping crises, increasing pressure on global stability.

For now, officials insist no final decision has been made. But with plans advancing and rhetoric intensifying, the path to confrontation appears increasingly within reach.

Cuba should be free to deal and do business with whoever it wants. That's the way forward if the aim is to get the best for Cuba.

If it keeps Trump's ego in the media, he'll definitely invade. What's one more country to destroy?

That'll really upset Pope Leo, as Cubans pre revolution were a majority Catholic nation, and won't help his cause with the ex- Cubans in the US.

Wont take long to bomb Cuba back to the 1950s.

Ah yes, those heady days under the CIA-backed Fulgencio Batista with casinos lining the malecón, chock-full of wealthy Americans rubbing shoulders with the mafia capos. The place is crying out for a Trumpian edifice.

Exactly. Imagine how many casinos he can bankrupt and small contractors he can stiff if he got his tiny grubby hands on Cuba!thumbsup
